(Lacrosse CO Sheriff and Kenosha County Sheriff)

Last Tuesday, October 11, 2022, the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office charged two men for the murders of James Hood and Houston Oliver outside a Kenosha Tavern named Las Margaritas. A man and a woman were also injured during the September 18, 2022 shooting. Warrants were signed for the apprehension of these men in the amount of $2,000,000 each. KCE held off on breaking this story at the request of the Kenosha Police Department. Today, Murphy was taken into police custody in Hogansville, Georgia. He is awaiting extradition to Wisconsin to face trial. Readus, however, is still on the run. But he does know that police are looking for him. According to the criminal complaint, Readus called Kenosha detectives to “clear his name.” He said he came to Kenosha for “hoes” after seeing posts on Facebook and Snapchat. He denied any involvement in the shooting, but did admit he was in a fight. He didn’t provide police with his clothing description or agree to meet with police. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Police say that on September 18, Readus, Murphy and another person were at Las Margaritas bar located at 2232 Roosevelt Rd. in Kenosha. Readus was punched by a man and Readus then grabbed a pool stick and held it like a bat. He didn’t use it, as the men were all kicked out. Readus got into the back seat, and Murphy drove the vehicle. Readus started shooting at a large group of people, killing Hood and Oliver and wounding two others. They left the scene, and stopped at an unknown area where Murphy took off on foot. Readus then drove the car to Waukegan where he slept for the night. Later that day, Readus took the car to get detailed inside and out. Leading to the identification of the two suspects were numerous surveillance cameras and KPD patrol officers who saw the getaway car and captured it on squad camera. Both defendants are charged with two counts of murder, two counts of first degree reckless endangerment, and one count of discharging a firearm from a vehicle towards a person. While both men are felons, only Readus, the shooter, is being charged with being an out-of-state felon in possession of a firearm.

As far as these suspects, there could very well be a defense lurking in there somewhere. “Party to the crime” and “conspiracy” are used far too liberally.
