A 70-year-old man remains unaccounted for beneath the ice after a UTV broke through the water just after 3:26 p.m. today. The incident occurred when a the UTV, carrying three individuals, went through open water on Lake Elizabeth in the Village of Twin Lakes. According to the two other men on the UTV at the time, the operator did not realize the water was open in that area and believed it to be water pooled on top of the ice.
Two other individuals who were also on the ATV were able to make it out safely. They were evaluated by Twin Lakes Rescue and declined transport. The man, unfortunately, is presumed deceased. Multiple agencies, including the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), assisted in this search.
“The DNR has advised that the ice on lakes in our area is not safe, and it is not recommended for people to be on the ice at this time,” said Twin Lakes Police Chief Katie Hall. “We appreciate the cooperation and assistance of all agencies involved in the recovery efforts. Further updates will be provided as they become available. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the missing man during this incredibly difficult time, and we continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers,” Chief Hall added.
The Twin Lakes Police and Fire Departments have paused recovery efforts this for the evening and will resume operations at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.

It was about 50 degrees out today. He must have had a death wish.
Honestly…not a nice comment
jerk
Nature: “Here’s a 50° day in January”
Nobody: “Let’s take the quad onto a frozen lake.”
Not very bright to go on ice at 50 degrees. Natural selection
… on one machine ?
Open water or not !
That’s close to a thousand pounds !
What are people thinking ?
Oh yeah ! They’re not
Details, more details, did they catch any fish on Lake E. If so was it North or the Illinois side of the lake, were the fisherclown drinking any PBR’s, https://rumble.com/v6f60hm-presidential-advice-always-listen-to-your-mommy-5-new-piglets-born.-dont-en.html
I hope the cartel visits your pathetic ass
Me too .
What a douche bag.
No wonder he moved south of the border, no one could stand for his $h!t here.
How about a little compassion for this man’s family who may be reading this!!! We all have our opinions about using common sense in these situations, however, if this was your loved one missing, how would you feel reading these comments that are really not necessary!!!
Grow up people, as you are what’s wrong with society, in that there is so much hatred!!
Prayers to that man’s family and friends!!
I agree to have a little compassion for the family of course but then again we also have to look at the big picture they’re not incorrect either we really didn’t have that many days to freeze over to get that ice as thick as it should be to be out there on an ATV and jumping all over the place You just got to look at the big picture and it’s terrible it happened but it does happen and they’re only speaking the truth
Worlds longest sentence
Big picture .
worlds longest and most repetitive sentence…
Common sense says not to go on ice in 50 degree temperatures. Oh well, live and learn or don’t live and don’t learn.
The man has been recovered this morning.
For those that choose Winter Sports it is on each individual to understand the Risks and Dangers involved in those activities.
Hunting is another where rules and awareness is paramount !
People who choose to not understand what they are doing should stick to bowling !
Am I being rude and disrespectful ?
I don’t think so
I think you’re rude and disrespectful, in bowling you need plenty of awareness and there are rules to follow damn it.
When you post articles like this you- you should consider turning off comments bc the idiots who view your site are hurtful and ignorant!
Just food for thought
I like the first amendment too much
Only selectively though I see….
Yes !! Very Much So !! On Purpose.
Walking or Riding on ice is all about experience !
If you don’t have good experience at least consult with people that do !
I’m sure that by asking around these people might have gotten good advice on conditions in play.
Overall when people make bad choices, I blame the parents ! If you are a family of lake enthusiasts summer or winter, lessons learned about how to respect the lake should be taught by the parents to their children from the first day they go swimming or on a boat or walk on the ice. These are life long lessons that NEED TO BE TAUGHT !!
And it’s the parents responsibility to teach them.
Hurtful ? Ignorant ?
After this accident and one death, parents all around the county should be talking to their children about it.
Lessons taught, lessons learned !
Oh yeah. By the way. Free Speech is Fantastic!
I agree about being compassionate and having empathy for this family. But out of the three, you would think one of them would say not a good idea because it’s 50 degrees outside. Praying the man is found soon.
I know
That it was 50° but does this really matter when you have a large body of water that is supposed to be frozen? Is it really gonna thaw in such a short time on a 50° day? Im thinking not!
