WILMOT, Wis. — Das Fest Wisconsin returns to the Kenosha County Fairgrounds this summer with a three-day celebration of German heritage, community spirit, and high-energy entertainment. Scheduled for July 18–20, the festival promises fun for all ages — and for just $2 admission. Here are the top five reasons organizers say it belongs on every summer calendar:
1. A Musical Lineup That Goes Beyond Oom-Pah
Das Fest will host 18 bands across three stages, blending traditional German sounds with Americana, jazz, soul, and bluegrass. Headlining both Saturday and Sunday is Grammy-nominated accordionist Alex Meixner, known for his eleven-language vocal repertoire and his wild polka rendition of “Crazy Train.” The Blooze Brothers Band will make a grand entrance Saturday afternoon, and Sunday’s shows include Copper Box and The Jimmys. Visitors can also expect strolling alphorn players, German dance troupes, a magician, and live craft demonstrations.
2. Little Legs, Big Competition
More than 300 dachshunds and corgis will dash for glory in the crowd-favorite “Little Leg Races.” The weekend also features a Saturday costume contest that has become a must-see highlight — and perhaps the most adorable athletic event in the state.
3. Drinking for a Cause
Das Fest is organized entirely by volunteers, with profits supporting charities and service clubs across three counties. With every toast of “Prost!” festivalgoers contribute to local causes while enjoying their stein.
4. Authentic Food and Cold Bier
From Mader’s legendary Reuben rolls and sauerbraten to bratwurst by Lake Geneva Country Meats, the food options at Das Fest are anything but ordinary. Guests can feast on currywurst, pierogis, raclette, and spätzle, and cap it off with traditional desserts from Oma Jean’s Konditorei. Beverages include German imports like Hofbräu and Paulaner, along with the exclusive PROST! Pilsner brewed by Duesterbeck’s Brewing Company.
5. Games, Shopping, and Family Fun
Families will find a dedicated Kid Zone, carnival rides, and free activities. Shoppers can browse German imports and apparel, and adults can test their skills with Hammerschlagen or the stein-hoisting competition. Wine lovers can book a seat at the Wines for Humanity tasting.
Admission is just $2 for guests ages 10 and up, and parking is free. A free shuttle runs from Lake Geneva, and early arrivals may score free swag at the gates. Full details and schedules are available at www.dasfestwi.com.

One Response
Number #1 reason is to support your local Non Profit. The fair brings many wonderful family events and we should all be grateful they exist. I know the Workers are busting their tail, to try to bring this new building on line for the public to enjoy before the Fest and Fair. Thanks for the hard work. The public supports the Fair even when at times our local government seems to be misguided, but they are trying to make things right, We hope.
