KENOSHA, Wis. – Two men appeared in court Friday after a police chase through Kenosha neighborhoods ended with both the driver and his passenger running from the vehicle, according to newly filed criminal complaints.
Prosecutors charged 47-year-old Minor Coleman Jr. with seven counts, including two felonies: second-degree recklessly endangering safety and fleeing an officer. Coleman also faces misdemeanor charges of operating while revoked, failure to install an ignition interlock device, obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct, and possession of THC.
According to the complaint, Kenosha Police Officer Gibbons attempted a traffic stop on Coleman’s vehicle the evening of Aug. 14 after noticing it had expired Illinois plates. Instead of stopping, Coleman allegedly accelerated through city streets, reaching speeds estimated at 60 mph. Police say Coleman disregarded multiple stop signs as he drove through a densely populated neighborhood. Officers noted the pursuit occurred on a warm summer evening when children and residents were outside, creating significant danger to the public.
The chase ended when Coleman allegedly turned into a driveway on 35th Avenue, drove into a backyard, and fled on foot. Officers reported that he ran through private yards, disturbing children playing on a trampoline and breaking a fence panel. Police said Coleman was later found hiding in a garage and taken into custody. A search of the vehicle turned up an open beer and a bag of THC gummies weighing more than 50 grams.
In court Friday, Coleman was ordered held on a $10,000 cash bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 20. The most serious charge, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted.
The passenger in the vehicle, 47-year-old Terral L. Randle, was also arrested after police said he climbed out of the front passenger window and ran from the scene. He was charged with a single count of obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor. Randle was given a signature bond and is due back in court on Oct. 2.
Authorities said both men initially ignored repeated commands to stop during the incident. Police also noted that Coleman has prior felony convictions, making him eligible for enhanced penalties if convicted of the new charges.
