KENOSHA, Wis. — A 36-year-old Kenosha man was in court Friday after being accused of violently attacking his wife during a dispute at their home.
Brandon D. Rivera, 36, is charged with strangulation and suffocation, substantial battery, and disorderly conduct — all with domestic abuse assessments. The most serious charge, strangulation and suffocation, carries a maximum penalty of six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Rivera’s home on August 14 after his wife reported he had tackled and choked her during an argument about their divorce and living arrangements. She suffered a broken clavicle, as well as bruising and redness on her face and neck. Officers documented petechiae around her eyes, injuries consistent with strangulation.
The complaint states Rivera admitted to choking his wife and told police that the more she struck him, the harder he squeezed his hand around her neck. During the attack, he allegedly told her, “I should kill you” and “I hope you die.” A young child present at the scene told police she saw Rivera on top of her mother with his hands around her mother’s neck.
Kenosha County Court Commissioner William Michel II set Rivera’s bail at $5,000 cash. He is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on August 19.

$5000 for attempted murder? What a joke
Strangulation should be considered attempted murder. Thanks for showing the faces of these cowards.
