KENOSHA, Wis. — The City of Kenosha will shift its paratransit transportation service to Carepool Innovations, Inc. on Jan. 1, 2026, ending its long-running contract with Kenosha Achievement Center’s Care-A-Van program.
City officials say the change is intended to maintain and improve reliability, service quality and the overall rider experience for people who depend on paratransit to get to work, medical appointments and other essential destinations. Riders will be able to begin booking 2026 trips with Carepool starting Dec. 15, 2025, by calling 262-278-6455. Riders can also request access to the Carepool Passenger App through the same number, which allows users to book and manage trips from a smartphone.
Until the end of this year, riders are being told to continue scheduling all trips through Dec. 31, 2025, with Kenosha Achievement Center at 262-658-9093. Only rides occurring on or after Jan. 1 will be handled by Carepool.
Paratransit service hours will remain the same under the new provider, according to the city. Buses and vehicles will run Monday through Friday from 4:55 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sundays with limited service within three-quarters of a mile of the streetcar line during streetcar operating hours.
The city says the current fare structure for paratransit riders is not changing as part of the transition. Riders will pay the same fares they do now once Carepool takes over in January.
Carepool bills itself as a rideshare-style service built for older adults and healthcare trips, emphasizing that riders can get to know regular drivers for consistency and receive door-through-door assistance or wheelchair-accessible service. Promotional materials say the company operates in both urban and rural areas across multiple states.
Kenosha Area Transit is encouraging riders with questions or concerns about the transition to call its office at 262-653-4290.

Curious what does this mean for The Kenosha Achievement Center and their transportation vans and employees? Many long term care facilities use caravan now for their residents to get to their medical appointments.
Don’t worry! Care-A-Van isn’t going anywhere in the new year! And KAC will still be providing rides to facilities and individuals that need accessible transportation.
The same great dependable service riders have trusted for decades. Even though no longer the paratransit provider, KAC continues its commitment to serving elders and people with disabilities.
Starting January 1, 2026, Care-A-Van will offer door-to-door rides Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM, throughout Kenosha County east of I-94. One-way rides will be $28.
For more than 50 years, KAC has been dedicated to helping elders and individuals with disabilities get wherever they need to go safely and comfortably – and that mission continues stronger than ever. 💛
If you or someone you care for needs accessible transportation, Care-A-Van will always be here to help. Call 262-658-9093 to learn more or schedule a ride!
$28 for one way sounds expensive for those who are on a fixed income/ Medicaid. Those that use this service are elderly/ disabled, what does a round trip cost?
