TWIN LAKES, Wis. — Two dogs were safely rescued from a house fire Tuesday evening in Twin Lakes, and firefighters say the quick response from someone inside the home likely prevented a much worse outcome.
At about 6:02 p.m., Twin Lakes Fire/Rescue responded to the 2000 block of Matthews Avenue for a report of a structure fire. Crews from the Town of Randall Fire Department, Richmond Illinois Fire Protection District, and the Town of Wheatland Fire Department also assisted in the response. Matthews Ave Release
When firefighters arrived, law enforcement officers already at the scene told crews the fire had started in the kitchen but had been put out before firefighters arrived using a portable fire extinguisher. Fire crews confirmed the flames were extinguished and began ventilating the home and checking the structure to ensure the fire had not spread to hidden areas.
Inside the home were two dogs, both of which were safely removed during the response. Firefighters confirmed the animals were unharmed.
Officials later determined that the fire damage was contained to the kitchen area, although smoke spread throughout the two-story residence.
No injuries were reported, and both dogs made it out safely — something firefighters say is always a relief during emergency calls.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
