KENOSHA, Wis. – A 28-year-old Kenosha woman already in custody at the Kenosha County Jail now faces a dozen additional criminal charges after authorities say she attacked another inmate and attempted to stop her from reporting the assault to jail staff.
Kristina Faith Sargeant was formally charged Monday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with two felonies—intimidation of a victim and battery by prisoner—along with ten misdemeanor counts, including disorderly conduct, bail jumping, and multiple violations of jail regulations. Court Commissioner William Michel ordered a $5,000 cash bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 25.
The charges stem from a June 14 incident inside a shared cell at the downtown jail. According to the criminal complaint, surveillance video shows Sargeant approaching another inmate who was seated on her bunk, verbally taunting her before punching her in the face with a closed fist. The impact allegedly caused visible bruising and swelling.
When the victim tried to leave the area to contact correctional officers, Sargeant reportedly grabbed and shoved her, attempting to block her from summoning help. Deputies later observed bruising on the victim’s cheek and arms.
A third inmate, who also witnessed the attack, told authorities Sargeant had been aggressive throughout the morning and punched the other inmate “out of nowhere.” That witness also claimed Sargeant ordered her to “sit [her] ass back down” when she tried to use the restroom during the incident.
Deputy Fowler of the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office reviewed the surveillance footage and interviewed all parties. When asked about the incident, Sargeant allegedly replied, “It is what it is.” The deputy documented red marks on Sargeant’s right knuckles consistent with having thrown a punch.
In addition to the two felony counts, Sargeant is charged with eight counts of violating jail rules, including prohibitions against fighting, physical contact, disorderly behavior, and the use of obscene or abusive language. She also faces a misdemeanor bail jumping charge for allegedly violating bond conditions in an open Milwaukee County case by committing a new crime.
If convicted of all charges, Sargeant faces a maximum penalty of more than 18 years in jail. She remains in custody pending her next court appearance.
