KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — A high-speed chase on Interstate 94 involving an Illinois driver and two passengers has resulted in felony charges against all three men, with the alleged driver facing the most serious consequences.
Jordon T. Cunningham, 25, of North Chicago, appeared in court Tuesday and was charged with seven counts, including three felonies for first-degree recklessly endangering safety and one felony count of fleeing or eluding an officer. Court Commissioner William Michel II set Cunningham’s cash bail at $50,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 8.
According to the criminal complaint, around 12:40 a.m. on August 4, a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy began following a white Chevrolet Malibu on I-94 northbound into Kenosha County. Though not engaged in a formal pursuit, the deputy alerted Wisconsin authorities about the vehicle’s erratic driving. Kenosha County deputies clocked the Malibu at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour as it weaved between all four lanes, attempted multiple exits, and allegedly turned directly toward two deputies trying to deploy tire deflation devices, forcing them to flee on foot.
Authorities say Cunningham was behind the wheel during the entire chase, which ended near the Highway 165 off-ramp after Pleasant Prairie police successfully deployed stop sticks. Officers recovered two firearms—one crushed—and roughly 63 grams of packaged marijuana along with digital scales that tested positive for drug residue. None of the vehicle’s occupants possessed a valid concealed carry permit.

Cunningham’s two passengers, Emir Tyjhon Jones, 19, of Beach Park, Illinois, and Darian Lamar Abernathy, 24, of Parma, Ohio, also appeared in court Tuesday. Both face charges of possession with intent to deliver THC, possession of drug paraphernalia, and carrying a concealed weapon. Jones is additionally charged with obstructing an officer after allegedly fleeing on foot into tall brush.
Bail for Jones and Abernathy was set at $750 cash each, and both are scheduled to return to court on August 8 for preliminary hearings. The investigation remains ongoing.
