KENOSHA, Wis. — The Kenosha Public Museum is inviting residents to explore one of the most expansive and immersive exhibitions it has hosted in years: The World of Sharks, a major new showcase that opens Saturday, December 13, and aims to illuminate the biology, diversity, and environmental importance of sharks, creatures that are older than dinosaurs yet far more threatened than most people realize .
The exhibit—packed with striking specimens, interactive stations, large-scale models, and dramatic high-definition video displays—was organized by the American Museum of Natural History in New York with support from Fundación Coppel A.C. Warner Brothers Discovery Inc. also contributed significant backing, and Discovery’s Shark Week provided select video content featured throughout the galleries .
Museum officials say the goal is simple: bring visitors face-to-fin with a species group that is both feared and misunderstood, all while highlighting sharks’ critical role in ocean ecosystems and the threats they face in modern waters. The exhibition occupies the museum’s second floor and is expected to draw major crowds throughout the winter.
To celebrate the launch, the museum is rolling out a slate of public programs tailored for families, movie lovers, and science enthusiasts alike.
Family Shark Day Set for January 17
On Saturday, January 17, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., families can take part in a free afternoon event featuring hands-on crafts and a special appearance by Dr. Steve Kessel of the Shedd Aquarium, who will discuss his groundbreaking shark research in the Caribbean. After his talk, visitors will be encouraged to explore the exhibition at their own pace and participate in interactive learning sessions designed by the museum’s education staff .
Movie Night Double Feature Coming January 30
The museum will also host a free winter movie night on Friday, January 30, featuring Finding Dory and the classic thriller Jaws. Sponsored by the Friends of the Museum and Educators Credit Union, the event runs from 5 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. and includes an extended intermission that allows moviegoers to step into the shark exhibit between films. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and snacks for the one-night-only double feature in DC Hall .

The museum expects strong turnout for both special events and recommends arriving early for the best seating and exhibit access.
