KENOSHA, Wis. — Local elected officials, public safety workers, and community organizations across Kenosha County donned lifejackets this week as part of a countywide campaign promoting boating and water safety during Water Safety Month.

Friday marks the National Safe Boating Council’s “Wear Your Lifejacket at Work Day,” an annual awareness campaign encouraging people to wear lifejackets whenever they are on or near the water. The local initiative was coordinated for the third consecutive year by Kenosha County Medical Examiner Patrice Hall in partnership with the Kenosha Safety Around Water Coalition.

“Wearing a lifejacket is an essential step for ensuring your safety when you’re out on the water,” Hall said. “While our photo shoot participants were on land, we hope it serves as a fun reminder to take water safety seriously — during Water Safety Month, and throughout the year.”

Participants in the campaign included Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman and members of the county’s Public Works leadership team, Kenosha Mayor David Bogdala, City Administrator John Morrissey, members of the Kenosha Joint Services dispatch and records divisions, the Kenosha Police Department, and the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The campaign also featured K-9 Tilly of the Kenosha Police Department posing in a lifejacket, along with county employees, parks officials, and community volunteers participating in staged photos at workplaces and public facilities throughout the county.
