Kenosha County Eye has received several emails, phone calls and even sat down with some staff members of Kenosha’s downtown hospital, Froedtert South. They all say the same thing. “There is a big change coming.” We have heard allegations including the entire facility being shut down, only the Emergency department being kept open, and in the worst-case scenario, an urgent-care type facility only.

Kenosha City administrator John Morrissey told KCE that his office, which includes the Mayor, is aware of the possibility of the hospital changing to an urgent care center. Morrissey said the City Administration and the City’s Fire Chief are frustrated at the possibility of losing an emergency department and hospital on the City’s east side. The income level near and around Froedtert South is generally much lower than on the City’s west side, some 7 miles west of Froedtert South, or about a 17 minute car ride (according to google maps). On the west side of the City, there are two hospitals, Froedtert St. Catherine’s and Aurora. Morrissey said that while he has confidence in the City’s highly trained EMS system, that is comprised of EMTs and many paramedics, he said that the City clearly hopes that the final decision to close the fully functional hospital is scrapped.

  1. What an amazing location in my opinion for low income ,subsidized housing for our disenfranchised minority population in Kenosha. My guess would be that the back door, cigar room meetings are going on right now. We need to convert property and the remainder of Kenosha downtown into subsidized low income apartment complexes . No doubt that the liberal Allendale crowd will love this idea. Obviously, the only organization able to achieve such a task would be our very own Mills family from Bear Development in my opinion. These folks are fully vested within Kenosha and at the forefront of philanthropic charitable development and giving. Stay tuned for more to come.

  2. Duncan is a lying idiot. Look at how he handled the pandemic and the idiots on the board for KUSD. He’s a snake. He will only look out for what’s best for his wallet

  3. Kenosha is no longer for traditional Kenosha. Adjust your thinking. The Mills family is pro Mills family only. Adjust your thinking. Low income in downtown? Not without WEDA funding. Low income housing in downtown is not on the drawing board. Adjust your thinking. Get a clue. We need a hospital presence on the East side.

  4. Our population growth & you want to eliminate a hospital! You are out of your mind! I surely hope this is just a rumor!!!!!!!

  5. Perfect place for a retirement community. Each room has a bathroom. They can have one main kitchen by turning the nursing station into a community kitchen and eating area on each floor.

  6. It is a longer drive than 17 minutes from the lakefront of Kenosha to either of the hospitals on the way west side. Heavy traffic, roads closed, etc….make it a much longer and more difficult commute.
