Kenosha Man Arrested, Charged After Threatening To Shoot Family Members For Turning On the A/C

A 67-year-old Kenosha man is free on a $2,500 cash bail after pointing a gun at family members and threatening to kill them for turning on the home’s air conditioner. Kenneth J. Self, 67, of Kenosha was arrested on Monday and charged on Tuesday for Felony Failure to Comply with Officers’ Attempt to Take Person Into Custody, Pointing a Firearm at Another – Domestic Abuse, Resisting an Officer, and Disorderly Conduct – Use of a Dangerous Weapon, Domestic Abuse.

Self faces more than five years in the Wisconsin Prison System if convicted of all charges. According to the criminal complaint:

On August 19, 2024 at about 5:15 p.m., Kenosha Police were dispatched to a home on the north side of Kenosha . The caller stated that Kenneth Self threatened to shoot people and himself because someone turned the air conditioning on. The caller said that self had a handgun in his hand and was waiving it around.

When police arrived, they spoke to two family members of Self. One relative stated the Self pointed the gun at her and told her it was loaded. She told police he threatened to shoot anyone who “messed with the air conditioning” and then shoot himself. The relative said the Self was on pain killers that made him “very angry.” She fled the house with another relative and their dog to call 9-1-1. She said Self had previously threatened suicide.

The Kenosha Police surrounded the home and demanded that Self exit the home with his hands up over a loudspeaker. Eventually, Self exited the rear of the residence but didn’t listen to police’s commands. He then went back into the house, against the directions from police. Later, Self exited the front of the home and was taken into custody at gunpoint.

Police got consent to search the house and located two handguns, holsters and ammunition in Sefl’s bedroom.
