Gaitan, an award-winning reporter, had been a dedicated journalist at the Kenosha News for nearly a decade. He was tasked with accepting media requests from other news organizations such as KCE, the regional and national news. He would be the liaison between the media and the court system. It didn’t come with extra pay and was something that kept him very busy.

“Gaitan was a wonderful journalist and an all-around good person. In my opinion, he was the last good reporter for the Kenosha News,” said KCE Editor Kevin Mathewson. “Not only was he an excellent reporter, but he did a tremendous job as the Kenosha County Media coordinator. The Kenosha News’ loss is the City of Kenosha’s gain.”

    1. It was decimated long before that, when they decided that the Kenosha News should just be a larger version of the Labor Paper, and that at least half of Kenosha belonged in a basket of deplorables, long before Hillary muttered that expression.

  1. He is being rewarded for never writing a story that was critical of the city of Kenosha government. Kenosha takes care of those who keep the secrets.

    1. exactly! I am not in the Gaiten camp, he has written very divisive pieces in the past against Christians and I feel that he is a very dishonorable person

  2. I’m happy he’s able to move on and have a good future ahead
of him, even though we’ve never met.
It makes me wonder what ever happened to some of
    the slugs that worked there.
They sure had plenty of them.

  3. Gaitan is a nice fellow, but an amateur at best as a journalist. For example, he never covered the original Women and Children’s Horizon fiasco or the subsequent disaster after the director was finally fired. There’s a reason that Kevin Mathewson has a following, and it’s not just because we can read it for free. Every one of KCE’s articles are that of a quality journalist covering local issues in depth. When has the Kenosha News beaten KCE to a good story? There are plenty of young journalists coming out of the bowels of biased journalism schools, including UW Madison, who will snap up Gaitan’s job for even less money than Gaitan was likely making, and they will be as mediocre in depth and coverage as Gaitan. Gaitan may not be replaced. Past Gaitan, the remaining two lady reporters, Craig and Flores, will continue their mediocrity of reporting. Kenosha News relies on the lying, biased state, national and international clips from Associated Press, and a sports section that covers the locals very well, though all game results are a day late. The ads are repetitive, and the paper goes to print at 3PM. The number of print subscribers is rapidly dwindling, including me after 25 years. The print edition will be gone in a year. There are many reasons that the old Kenosha News building is now Herzing U. I predict more layoffs when the Racine Times and Kenosha News merge.

    1. If you want a good laugh…..this from the Kenosha News “about us” page:

“Our mission is to weave together the community fabric, increase understanding about the issues we face and watch out for the public’s best interests.”

Most of us know the Kenosha News along with the Racine Journal Times could care less about the public interest…..that is why we follow the reporting on KenoshaCountyEye.

    2. You sounded like you knew what you were talking about up until that last sentence. Kenosha News and Racine Journal Times have been one for quite a few years now.

The old Kenosha News building was owned by the Brown family. They sold it, as they no longer printed on site and had no use for a building that size.

      1. I was unaware the two had merged. It seems there’s little news or advertising about Racine. Who cares? The paper has turned to crap.

  4. Good for him.

However is this really a full time job? Seems like a good spot for a college intern.

    To quote Ron Swanson:

    I have a joke for you…
The government in this town is excellent and uses your tax dollars efficiently.
