SOMERS, Wis. – A Kenosha teenager is facing six felony charges after allegedly leading deputies on a dangerous high-speed chase through residential neighborhoods with three juveniles in the vehicle, including two minors who had reportedly stolen a relative’s car.
My’ke C. Franklin, 18, was charged in Kenosha County Circuit Court on Thursday, June 20, with five counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and one count of fleeing or eluding an officer. He also faces a felony charge for operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent. Court Commissioner William Michel II ordered a $20,000 cash bail and scheduled a preliminary hearing for June 27.
According to the criminal complaint, the incident began Tuesday evening, June 17, after a woman reported her 2018 Jeep Cherokee stolen from her home in Kenosha. She told sheriff’s deputies her nieces may have taken the vehicle without permission.
Shortly thereafter, deputies located the stolen Jeep and attempted a traffic stop in Somers. The driver—later identified as Franklin—allegedly accelerated to speeds over 90 miles per hour through stop signs and red lights, narrowly avoiding collisions with multiple vehicles, including a squad car from the Racine Police Department.
During the chase, Franklin reportedly blew through a red light while driving in the wrong lanes of traffic and continued through several intersections in a residential neighborhood at nearly four times the speed limit. Deputies described the driving as reckless and showing “utter disregard for human life.”
The pursuit ended near 3311 Monarch Drive, where the vehicle abruptly stopped and four individuals fled on foot. Deputies quickly detained two juvenile girls at the scene, ages 13 and 14. The complaint states that both admitted Franklin was the driver and confirmed the vehicle had been taken without permission.
Franklin was later found nearby with another juvenile passenger. After waiving his Miranda rights, he reportedly told deputies he initially planned to pull over but fled due to peer pressure. He admitted to driving at high speeds and fleeing from law enforcement.
If convicted on all counts, Franklin faces up to 60 years in prison.
