SALEM LAKES, Wis. — A 60-year-old man was charged Monday with felony elder abuse and misdemeanor disorderly conduct after allegedly punching his wife in the face during an argument at their mobile home on Sunday.
Case G. Marcussen, of Salem Lakes, appeared in court the same day the criminal complaint was filed. Court Commissioner William Michel II ordered a $1,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 1.
Marcussen is accused of striking his 67-year-old wife in the lip and cheek during a dispute at their residence in Lakewood Estates Mobile Home Park. According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, the woman called 9-1-1 around 5:53 p.m. and said she was bleeding and had locked her husband out of the home.
Deputies reported visible injuries to the woman’s lips and cheek, along with minor swelling and dried blood. A witness at the scene, a friend of the couple, told deputies she saw Marcussen strike the woman, who then tried to defend herself before retreating inside the trailer.
Marcussen admitted to drinking gin and tonic “all day” and acknowledged a heated argument, but denied striking his wife. He claimed she hit him first. Deputies noted the defendant had no apparent injuries and that his red face appeared to be due to sun exposure, not assault.
He is charged with one felony count of physical abuse of an elder person and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, both with domestic abuse modifiers. If convicted, Marcussen faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines on the felony count alone.
