Kenosha, Wis. — A Maine man is facing felony charges in Kenosha County after allegedly assaulting a woman and robbing her of a necklace in a violent altercation last fall. On Wednesday, Court Commissioner William Michel II set bail at $10,000 cash for Lewis A. Covington, 32, who is charged with robbery with use of force and substantial battery—both with domestic abuse enhancers.
According to the criminal complaint, the incident occurred on October 12, 2024, when Covington allegedly struck a woman in the face with a car radio and ripped a gold chain from her neck. The woman, who had been in a relationship with Covington, sustained a deep laceration above her eye and required 8 to 10 stitches.
Police say the victim told them that Covington had just exited a sedan near his uncle’s apartment on Sheridan Road when he announced he was going to “hit a lick,” a phrase she understood to mean he intended to rob someone. When she refused to be involved, she said Covington became violent.
After striking her, Covington allegedly fled on foot behind the building. Police attempted to locate him but were unsuccessful at the time.
The robbery with use of force charge is a Class E felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $50,000 fine. The substantial battery charge is a Class I felony, carrying a maximum of 3 years and 6 months in prison and a $10,000 fine. If convicted on both counts, Covington faces over 18 years in prison.
Covington remains in custody at the Kenosha County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 29.

Only “lick” he gonna hit is gonna be at the vending machine at the county jail… Dummy!!! Get a job before you rob the wrong one and catch a shell.
Let’s hope he doesn’t end up in “Judge” Kerkman’s courtroom. He’d likely be released after “pinky swearing” to be a good boy from now on.
Kerkman will keep his eye on him.
