KENOSHA, Wis. — A Kenosha woman told detectives she discovered her firearm missing only after reading Kenosha County Eye’s exclusive reporting on the felony gun-theft investigation involving Jared C. Pease, 26, and his uncle, 57-year-old James C. Pease — leading prosecutors to file a brand-new felony charge against both men on Thursday.
According to the new criminal complaints, the woman hired the Peases for plumbing work at her Kenosha home on September 30 and October 1. After seeing Kenosha County Eye’s story detailing the earlier theft of eight firearms and the recovery of 16 more during a search warrant, she checked the location of her own Ruger 10/22 rifle. It was gone. She immediately contacted the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives then confirmed that the Ruger 10/22 recovered from the Peases’ residence last week matched her firearm exactly, down to the serial number.
The newly filed cases charge both men with one additional Class H felony count of theft of movable property (special facts). The complaint against James alleges he acted as a lookout while the gun was taken. The complaint against Jared states he identified the stolen Ruger as belonging to him during the search, even though the victim produced the purchase receipt confirming otherwise.
The pair is already facing a massive stack of felony charges tied to stolen firearms, drug possession, possession of a silencer, and felon-in-possession counts stemming from the earlier search warrant.
James Pease appeared in court today, where Supplemental Court Commissioner Tracey Braun set his bail at $1,500 cash. He remains in custody at the Kenosha County Jail.
Jared Pease — also still jailed — is scheduled to appear tomorrow at 1 p.m. on the new felony charge.
Law enforcement officials noted that without Kenosha County Eye’s reporting, this additional stolen firearm likely would not have been discovered.

Fantastic! I’m glad they got the guns back, before they ended up on the street. I hope the scumbags get put away
for a long time.
