The rumors were true and unfortunate for many Kenosha residents and leaders. Froedert South in downtown Kenosha will close it’s Emergency Department on October 1, 2022. Instead, the building will provide 24/7 “urgent care services.” This means that people who come into the hospital with emergencies that require more than the urgent care center can handle, they will likely dial 9-1-1 and have to tie up City EMS Services to transport the patients to the west-end hospitals.

“Our commitment to the people of Kenosha and Kenosha County as a whole is strong,” said CEO Ric Schmidt who makes about $1.4 Million per year according online records. Some healthcare providers from Froedtert who spoke to KCE, however, say its a move that is based solely on financial reasons, not community service. The hospital, which is in a poor part of the City, receives many Medicaid and Medicare patients and that isn’t making what the hospital wants to make. One staff member shared the following with KCE:

“The administration at the Froedert South Healthcare System can not be oblivious to this. They are choosing to turn a blind eye to the reality that they are going to create by making these changes to a community that has been loyal to them, even though this loyalty has not been reciprocated. While their mission statement includes their values of integrity, respect, accountability, and commitment, they are doing nothing to practice them. They have not been honest to the community and are showing a blatant disregard for the commitment to them. When confronted with the changes being made, they take no accountability for the negative affects they have and will have in the community that had built their business from nothing. At what point do you finally think about why you are in healthcare and stop thinking about ‘business deals’ and money?

Kenosha Fire Chief Chris Bigly, reached by phone Friday afternoon, said he was disappointed in the change and said he has no doubt that it will effect his department’s EMS operations. Bigley doesn’t yet know to what extent but is diligently putting together the data. Bigley wants the public to know and remember two important things. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, the best thing you can do is call 911. Once an ambulance arrives to your location, there will be at least two paramedics and one EMT on the ambulance to begin medical care immediately. So while the ride to the hospital may be a bit longer, patients will be getting treatment by well-trained fire department staff.

  1. Do not be afraid. Especially the Allendale liberals that have the Biden/Harris signs in their yards. The Dayton Hotel desperately needs to expand. The entire Kenosha downtown needs to be converted into low income, subsidized apartments complexes. Expand the social security/welfare offices . Put in two or three blood plasma donation centers, with multiple liquor/cigarette/marijuana/ convenience stores. A Planned Parenthood clinic and of course at least three or four Pay Day Loan centers. BLM and Antifa love Kenosha , so they too need a big office in the downtown along with several churches and a massive homeless shelter for those poor people from Chicago. We need to think big now and focus on taking care of everyone else that is less fortunate.
The downtown needs to be a shinning example of Kenosha leadership, similar to our lovely uptown. Tom Duncan and Steve Mills of Bear Development should have statues of themselves erected in Harbor Park. Keep hope alive people, yes we can !!!!

    1. Yep!!!! Steve Mills owned PP! A farm owner here told me they have spoken with 9 attorneys to fight against him with property changes he is making around the farm.land, but once they learned who was involved, they can’t take the case because they either have some kind of connection through his businesses or they feel they won’t win! Are there ANY attorneys who have a backbone anymore!?

      1. Attorneys and politicians have backbones? Maybe 10% have any sort ethics and adhere to the rule of law….the other 90%. Not so much.
Will leave any discussion of ethics, real estate agents and developers for another day.

  2. So, if someone on the east side needs immediate care, they’ll have to go through the destruction zone to Aurora or St. Cats, where most likely they’ll be pronounced DOA because it’s a nightmare trying to navigate through that mess.

  3. When will health care be about saving lives rather than the almighty dollar? The three stooges named above will have blood on their hands…. Mills, Schmidt and Duncan. Sad. This is going to be very bad for citizens and the police and fire departments. I don’t believe that they will invest in mental health care either. It’s all just deflection.

  4. This is a tremendous slap at Kenosha and a costly one in terms of dollars and lives.

There will be delays in getting people to the ER, of course.

And the city will need more EMS staffing.

  5. Yes, yes, Mayor Antaramian’s vision is all coming together. I’ve noticed progressive signs down in Allendale, let’s give them the services they cry out for….A Planned Parenthood mega facility, shelter, several Marihuana dispensaries and a integration facility for those poor Undocumented immigrants that Texas shuns. C’mon Kenosha Strong, let’s get behind this!

  6. If want to visit a downtown that is slowly regressing backward into a first class shit hole once again just follow what that fat, liberal ,useless blowhard democrat mayor Cory Mason has done to Racine. Homeless drug users, gangs, crime and shootings going unreported everywhere. Businesses are suffering, especially restaurants. Give it a little more time, and allow these liberal nutballs to have their way and this exactly what the Kenosha downtown will turn into. Go after them the same way they go after conservatives and expose their insanity.

    1. “fat, liberal, useless blowhard Democrat”….Yes, Cory Mason is all of that and more.
Racine, Kenosha, Milwaukee. Dem-Lib runs shit-holes.

    2. Antaramian has ticked all the boxes on the typical liberal city starter set..
      High crime
      Low income housing dispersed throughout
      Shitty public schools
Law enforcement stand down during unrest
      Catch and release friendly DA
      Corrupt officials
They get an A+ for letting the sketchy degenerates sleep on the downtown library steps and the burned out Mangia across from classic limestone architecture. But the thing Kenosha lacks is a tent city.
Let’s get that tent city in Southport Park to be on par with the rest of those lefty enclaves!

  7. KMH meeting the same fate as the Old St. Cat’s. Funny how the common theme is Ric Schmidt. He closed and consolidated the two. Then build the new more modern Hospital in Pleasant Prairie across from where Aurora set up. Seems like the common theme here is money and not giving a crap about the community.
