KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. – After years of what many saw as unusually light treatment across multiple counties, 25-year-old Trenton B. Kmiec was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison and another seven years of extended supervision. The son of embattled attorney and former politician Ted Kmiec, Trenton appeared before Judge Gerad Dougvillo for sentencing in two Kenosha County felony cases after violating probation.

Judge Dougvillo made it clear that the court’s patience had run out.
“You’re not a kid anymore,” the judge said. “Everyone’s willingness to look the other way or to give breaks here and there has put us in this situation… At some point, the light has to come on and shine on you for the decisions that you’re making.”
Dougvillo ordered that the new sentence be served consecutive to Kmiec’s ongoing two-year prison term out of Fond du Lac County, where he was convicted last year of recklessly endangering safety, fleeing police, and operating a firearm while under the influence of drugs.
In court, Kmiec gave a lengthy and emotional statement, blaming his long history of substance abuse, sports-related brain injuries, chronic pain, family trauma, and depression for his criminal behavior.
“I threw it all away for drugs and partying,” he told the court. “I take full responsibility… but I still have faith in myself and my future.”
Judge Dougvillo said he had heard similar promises before.
“There were a lot of arguments put forward last time about what was going to be done, what the plan was for the future… And now here we sit, July 1, 2025, saying, ‘I’m taking accountability—but this is also kind of everybody else’s fault.’”
Ted Kmiec, a controversial former politician and former supplemental court commissioner whose house was the subject of a SWAT drug raid, sat quietly in the courtroom gallery.
Trenton Kmiec’s sentencing comes as he faces what may be the most serious charges of his life in a newly filed case—Kenosha County Case 2025CF48—which includes 44 felony counts of sexual abuse, child enticement, production and possession of child pornography, physical abuse, false imprisonment, strangulation, and repeated delivery of cocaine to a 17-year-old girl.
According to the criminal complaint, the girl told investigators that Ted Kmiec was aware of her age and that she regularly visited the family’s Salem Lakes home during the time of the alleged abuse.
The case is being prosecuted by Kenosha County District Attorney Xavier Solis, who has not commented publicly but is seeking lifetime supervision under Wisconsin’s serious sex offender statutes if Trenton is convicted.
All parties in court—Judge Dougvillo, Racine County Deputy District Attorney Christopher Steenrod, and defense attorney Ben Schwarz—sharply criticized the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for its handling of Kmiec’s supervision. Despite Kmiec overdosing twice, and nearly dying, while on probation, DOC failed to take meaningful action after the first incident. Judge Dougvillo stated that his court discourages conditional time reviews and emphasized that DOC should have pursued revocation much sooner. The failures of the agency were described as systemic and deeply troubling.
Among the charges are multiple counts that carry mandatory minimum prison terms, including the production of child pornography and exploitation of a child, which could result in decades behind bars. The criminal complaint also outlines dozens of bail jumping violations, each tied to previous cases in which Kmiec was already on bond or probation.
For years, Kmiec accumulated convictions across Kenosha, Fond du Lac, and Winnebago counties, often receiving probation or short jail stints. That pattern ended Monday.
“This is time for accountability now,” Judge Dougvillo said. “You’re on a track to kill yourself—not to mention the harm you’re going to do to other people.”

It’s about Fu&*^%g time!! He’s a worthless scumbag.
You are an old, creepy pervert.
sybau
Why? In a previous post, the guy with this same screen name disclosed he has ridden motorcycles for 55 years. So, a when an old man chooses this immature screen name, he is creepy.
This situation extends beyond mere law enforcement failures; the prosecution has an obligation to pursue charges for facilitating the use of the premises for illegal activities. Child pornography was being produced in the residence, and Ted, as the property owner, enabled the use of the premises for both this offense and drug-related activities. Nevertheless, the District Attorney is not pursuing any charges. What is the justification for this decision? The article further states that the father was aware of the minor’s presence in the house. Was the minor subjected to drug testing?
Finally, this dude is getting punished for his behavior, his father should be ashamed of himself that he allowed his sons criminal behavior to continue!
Ted & the DA will be out on the boat together this weekend.
In the long run, it’s probably a shame that narcan is so readily available. Hopefully our new district attorney will continue to pursue charges. I do have some high hopes considering he is at least willing to continue discovery.
Sounds like a whole another can of worms
Tony Evers will quietly pardon him by Christmas.
I hope not!
finally
POS……karma will get this idiot and his dad some day
Great job Xavier for finally doing what needed to be done and upholding your promise to make Kenosha County safe!! And nice article Kevin!! appreciate you following and reporting this.
I know there’s a sense around here that loves to hate Attorney Kmiec and it was only a matter of time before this kid was held accountable. But the truth is also far too many families have been ruined by kids getting hooked on drugs and that includes homes where parents work their butts off to do the right thing. As for young Mr. Kmiec, hopefully he will use the time out to get clean and sober.
Hopefully Trent will remain sober when he finishes out his long prison sentence. Leave the family alone now. Let them deal with their personal struggles out of the public eye. Teddy was always a good man. I hope him the best. Sell your home and get out of Kenosha County! Good luck to you.
Still has 40 something charges to deal with. Serious felony charges. Decades.
