A snow storm canceled two rehearsals for this year’s Choral Festival, but watching tonight’s event, you wouldn’t have noticed. Students from Kenosha Unified School District’s 5th grades, 8th grades, and high schools perfmored many songs Saturday evening. The last song, “Sign Me Up” was written by this year’s guest conductor, Dr. Brandon Boyd. Dr. Boyd is an assistant professor and the assistant director of Choral Activities at The University of Missouri.
In 2020, he made his debut with the London Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Andre Thomas, as guest pianist for the Symphonic Gospel Spirit Concert. In that year, he also served as a guest clinician for the NAfME All-National Honor Choir.
He holds two degrees from Florida State University (Ph.D. in choral music education and M.M. in choral conducting) and earned a B.S. in music education (emphasis in piano) from Tennessee State University. He is a proud member of the American Choral Directors’ Association (ACDA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM), American Guild of Organists (AGO), and Chorus America. Dr. Boyd also serves as a member of the National ACDA Composition Initiative committee.
Enjoy some photos from this evening.

Finally a positive story. Well done
I was waiting for the part where they had a drag queen show during the intermission or the black national anthem opened the program.
I won’t lie, me too
I was there last night. The students were so well behaved and the music was a joy to listen to. It was so worth the time to see all the students singing and having fun.
Thanks to the students/teachers and guest conductor for their time and talents. Kenosha will have beautiful music for year to come.
