KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — More than 20 years after the execution-style killing of David Vanderzee, the two people accused of orchestrating his murder are now both free on bail.
On Tuesday night, John Viskocil posted the $500,000 cash bond set by Commissioner William Michel II and was released from the Kenosha County Jail. His co-defendant and former lover, Roxanna Vanderzee-Collins, posted the same amount in May and has remained out of custody since.
At their initial court appearances, District Attorney Xavier Solis urged the court to impose $1 million cash bonds on each defendant, citing the brutal nature of the crime and the strength of the evidence. Michel instead set bail at $500,000 apiece.
The two are charged with first-degree intentional homicide as parties to a crime in connection with the 2003 death of Vanderzee-Collins’ then-husband, David Vanderzee, who was found shot multiple times in the back of the head in his Powers Lake home. Prosecutors allege Vanderzee-Collins and Viskocil, her secret romantic partner at the time, conspired to kill him.
The case remained cold for years and was declined by two former district attorneys, Bob Zapf and Michael Graveley. It was revived earlier this year by DA Solis, who has publicly committed to prosecuting serious violent crimes that had previously languished.
With both defendants now released, the case is poised to continue under the watch of Judge Anthony Milisauskas, who was recently assigned after two prior judges—Angelina Gabriele and Jason Rossell—recused themselves. Milisauskas is widely regarded in Kenosha’s legal community as a balanced and fair jurist.
A defense motion to dismiss the charges remains pending. Prosecutors have until July 25 to respond in writing, and the defense has until August 4 to reply. The court will hear arguments on the motion and proceed with the preliminary hearing on August 13 at 10:00 a.m.
Kenosha County Eye will provide continuing coverage of this high-profile case.

Limo John lives right around the corner from my family.
We are heavily armed and well practiced should he decide to do something stupid.
Only a fool reveals their protection strategies to the public.
Dumbass.
You would never say that to me in person, Big Wally.
I just did.
Time and place….tough guy.
They’re out on bond; I wonder where all this money is coming from. No worries—sooner or later, they’ll commit a violation and end up back in again. Offer Limo John a deal, and he’ll rat her out without hesitation.
Life insurance settlement money from the murder. Where else? With the new judge and the legal expenses they will have to incur, if found Not Guilty, they will be much poorer at the end of the process – especially if they have to liquidate assets to pay their attorneys. Being made much poorer aftet being rich is a psychological punishment that can be more painful than imprisonment in their old age, after believing they got away with it. Good on DA Solis for pulling the legal trigger on them.
Who thinks they will flee?
