KENOSHA, Wis. — A Kenosha man was found guilty Wednesday of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon after a chaotic July 21, 2024, shooting outside a house party on 14th Avenue. The jury returned a verdict in less than an hour, convicting Andrew A. Sherrod, 25, after reviewing surveillance video that appeared to show him holding and preparing to fire a handgun.
Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Crall, a new addition to the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office, secured the conviction in his first jury trial. Judge Gerad Dougvillo ordered a pre-sentence investigation, with sentencing scheduled for October 23 at 8:30 a.m.

District Attorney Xavier Solis praised Crall’s work, stating, “The Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office congratulates Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Crall on securing his first jury trial conviction. Although ADA Crall has been with the office for less than a month, he demonstrated professionalism and commitment by successfully prosecuting a case of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The jury returned a guilty verdict, helping keep our community safe.”
The case stemmed from a violent incident around 2:27 a.m. on July 21, 2024, when Kenosha Police responded to a reported shooting at 5026 14th Avenue. Officers recovered approximately 24 shell casings at the scene and obtained surveillance footage from multiple cameras, including those on the building and from nearby K Town Market and the Boys and Girls Club.
According to the criminal complaint, Sherrod was captured on video holding what appeared to be a handgun with an extended magazine. Another frame appeared to show him taking a two-handed firing stance. In a subsequent interview with detectives, Sherrod initially denied being at the scene but later identified himself in still photos. When confronted with images showing a gun in his hand, he alternated between claiming the object was not a gun, then saying it was a cell phone, and finally stating he could not remember if he was present during the shooting.
Sherrod, who was on supervision with the Department of Corrections, has two prior felony convictions, including one for Robbery with Use of Force and another for Possession of a Firearm by an Adjudicated Delinquent. As a repeater, Sherrod now faces a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
Defense attorney Brenda VanCuick, known locally for frequently securing acquittals, rested the case without presenting evidence. Final jury instructions were given Wednesday morning, and the jury began deliberating at 10:06 a.m., delivering the verdict at 10:59 a.m.
The investigation also resulted in charges against Rashied M. Pritchett and Devontae R. Gordon, both of whom were captured on video during the incident and allegedly in possession of firearms. Gordon, like Sherrod, was also on supervision and has a prior felony record for firearm possession.
The house party and subsequent gunfire shook the 14th Avenue neighborhood. Detectives identified multiple individuals on video holding guns during the incident, and one victim was reportedly shot by someone in a black SUV. No homicide charges have been filed, and the investigation into other potential shooters continues.
Sherrod remains in custody pending sentencing.
