KENOSHA, Wis. – A Kenosha man who once avoided prison for child abuse charges is now headed to state prison after his probation was revoked.
Trelous L. Shuttlesworth Sr., 29, was charged on Jan. 24, 2023, after prosecutors filed two counts of physical abuse of a child. A $5,000 warrant was issued for his arrest. According to the criminal complaint, investigators documented loop-shaped injuries and bruises on two of his children, ages 10 and 5, consistent with being struck with cords and belts.
On Oct. 18, 2023, Shuttlesworth pleaded guilty to one felony count of child abuse. The second count was dismissed. Judge Gerad Dougvillo withheld a formal sentence and placed him on probation for 18 months with conditions including court costs, a DNA sample, and firearm and voting prohibitions.
That probation was later revoked. On March 5, 2025, Shuttlesworth appeared in custody for a sentencing hearing before Judge Dougvillo. The court sentenced him to 54 months in the Wisconsin state prison system. That includes 30 months of initial confinement and 24 months of extended supervision. He was credited with 129 days already served and is eligible for the Challenge Incarceration Program and the Substance Abuse Program. Any unpaid fines and costs will be entered as a civil judgment.
The conviction for child abuse, a Class H felony, carries a maximum penalty of up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
