STURTEVANT, Wis. – Kenosha County Sheriff David W. Zoerner was pulled over by the Sturtevant Police Department on May 8, 2024, while riding a motorcycle with registration that had been expired since 2020. The body camera video from the stop shows Zoerner unable to provide proof of ownership, a bill of sale, registration, the title, or proof of insurance.

nothing to see here. back the blue
He just got the bike out of storage so of course the registration and stuff on it was bad
I think you missed the part about how he used his power to call the other department and get it voided.
Dont see a big issue here. He didnt pull the old “do you know who i am” , pull out his badge or harrass the officer in any way. Maybe would have been better if he just paid the fine but no big deal.
This guy is a creep. Didn’t know his plates and registration wasn’t up to snuff? Beyond speed limit? Above the law and has ticket dropped? Speaks well of Sturtevant PD as well. Ever notice people who can afford their mishaps most go free?
Would the same leniency be given to an average citizen in this situation? If not, it’s an unacceptable double standard and raises the bigger question of whether these departments can be trusted to investigate each other for far more serious incidents.
Seriously, who the fuck would want to be LE these days? Every job has it perks, this is not news worthy.
4 years expired?!?!?!? And he’s a Leo? Would he have voided such a ticket for John Q. Public? I don’t think so! Ridiculous! I agree with the commenter who said he should of just paid the fine and quietly went on his way!
Which other official of KESO contacted Sturtevant PD to have this violation removed from the TRAX system? As they are also complicit.
Really. Was this a lot of money in fines $
Does anyone know ? Because it would be interesting to ponder why he pulled strings for something as minor as this.
Goes to the same thinking about the arborist that stole $600. in Menards rebates.
To lose a job over a few hundred dollars.
Because as of now, after the name on the deputy cars issue, any candidate that wants to be sheriff is going to get a good look from me !
This guy who represents to be not a Democrat sure isn’t impressing me to vote for him again.
Things like this show a persons true character.
There’s an old saying that says ”A Craftsman does his job well even if nobody’s looking.”
Did he think this would not be found out ?
And here I would much rather have heard in the next campaign from a anonymous source that the Kenosha sheriff was stopped In Sturtevant and paid all his fines and registered his late brother’s bike and was proud to keep it in the family.
But now I guess we know that rules and fines and who knows what else are not for him to have to follow.
Really a shame David that not only were you stupid enough to continue this habit of not registering bikes but that once you became Sheriff you didn’t feel it was important to change your ways and rise to the stature of your office !
Just lost my vote.
Who’s with me ?
I regret voting for him, so many things this guy does is questionable. I learned of his behavior reading KCE. If he runs for sheriff again I’m not voting for him.
Keep in mind this is the guy who ran for sheriff as a democrat until Beth retired then he continently ran as a republican and won!! Is that the definition of of “flip/flopper”???
Keep in mind this is the guy that ran for sheriff as a Democrat and lost then when Beth retired he conveniently ran as a Republican and won! “Flip/Flopper”???
A deputy who works for him told me his Harley was in his office several months ago. This the storage you’re referring too?
It was in his office. I bought it off of him.
Meh. This doesn’t bother me. Instead of saying “do you know who I am??” he was cooperative, let her do her job and quietly took care of it later. Of course, he should know better than to ride it without registration etc but this is a pretty minor infraction.
This is a standard practice among LEOs, often misunderstood by those who have never served in such a capacity.
Integrity is what you do when nobody is watching.
It is not unprecedented for law enforcement officers to extend “professional courtesy” in minor matters. This is not a value judgment about whether it’s “right.” Typically this would be done at the time of the incident. There are times when people (in general) who have driven with expired registration or an equipment violation have been given “fix it” tickets that turn into “real” tickets if not rectified within a certain amount of time, usually five or 15 days. After correcting the deficiency they must notify the issuing agency of the correction.
It was voided after one of his command staff called the department. There was no fix-it ticket
An employee calling another agency to have your boss’ ticket voided is wrong in many ways. That said, some prosecutors and courts will cut some slack for people who have corrected regulatory violations (the DOT imposes an administrative penalty) but that’s an open and transparent process that isn’t dependent on “who you know.”
Is there any proof that Zoerner himself asked for the citation to be voided? Why do you think he didn’t tell the officer right away who he was? I bet she would have let him go immediately. Think about this….he accepted the ticket
Yes, there is proof.
A photo of the body camera video is posted. Where is the video with sound? I want to see the actual conversation between the officer and Zoerner. Unless it shows a different narrative than KCE is portraying.
Did Zoerner get a ticket and once he proved that he registered the motorcycle the ticket was cancelled? That would be a valid reason to void the ticket — for anyone that received a ticket for a non-registered vehicle.
The video is there. You got to read the whole article. The municipal clerk of courts confirmed that that citation was voided. It was not dropped because he fixed the registration
Not a big deal. He didn’t play the “I’m a cop” card which is respectful. Making a mountain out of a molehill. Let’s go back to the Racine Officer that beat up his wife and walked away from any charges. That’s a big deal.
Sturtevant is trying to get rid of it’s Police Department and contract coverage to the Racine Sheriffs Department—–Some of us considered Sturtevant PD operated to a higher standard. I guess not. Get rid of them and give the work to Racine.
