SALEM LAKES, Wis. — A firefighter was injured and later released from the hospital after falling through a compromised section of flooring while battling a working structure fire in Salem Lakes, an incident that drew a large multi-agency response as crews worked to rescue the downed firefighter and bring the fire under control.
Fire crews were dispatched to the residence at approximately 4 p.m. after a delivery driver in the area reported smelling smoke. Initial responding units reported minimal smoke showing from the front of the home and stretched a hose line to the front door to begin an interior fire attack.
Once inside the residence, firefighters encountered heavy smoke conditions with moderate heat. While advancing the hose line, a firefighter fell through a weakened section of flooring into the basement. A mayday was immediately declared over the radio, prompting command to request additional resources from neighboring departments to support rescue operations and sustained firefighting efforts.
Fireground radio traffic reflects a rapid shift from suppression to rescue, with emergency-only communications ordered as crews worked to locate and remove the injured firefighter. Firefighters were able to reach the downed firefighter and safely extricate them from the structure.
During the rescue operation, fire conditions continued inside the residence. After the firefighter was removed, crews resumed an aggressive interior attack and brought the fire under control within approximately one hour of the initial dispatch.
The injured firefighter was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and was later released with relatively minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Multiple agencies responded or provided mutual aid during the incident, including Salem Lakes Fire Rescue, Kenosha Fire Department, Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue, Randall Fire Department, Rochester Fire Department, Newport Fire Department, Twin Lakes Fire Department, Wheatland Fire Department, Paris Fire Department, Lake Villa Fire Protection District, and Antioch Fire Department. Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted on scene with traffic control, scene security, and coordination with utility crews.
Sheriff’s deputies also helped manage hazardous road conditions as water runoff from tanker operations began freezing on nearby roadways. Utility crews were requested to respond as part of the incident.
The homeowner was out of town at the time of the fire, and no occupants were inside the residence when the fire occurred.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.

Your comment
“putting there lives on the line daily”
is for what ?
Not once did the story say anything about that. This story was nothing but facts as the fire and response happened.
There was no editorializing by Kevin.
If you are looking for a fight, firefighters are the last people you should be antagonizing.
Safe to say nobody knows who you are and more importantly, don’t care.
Crawl back in your hole
This guy would be banned if I were in charge if this platform ☠️
My best friend’s father was a fire chief And when he passed, I witnessed the true brotherhood of these firefighters come together and be there for one another. It was truly touching and heartfelt how they watch over each other and others’ families. Maybe you should take note of that in your sad life. And yes, I agree, you are a bitch!
Tough guy eh? Maybe loosen your panties
Bitch? Or honest, ? They should do there job quietly or go get a job at a desk someplace and calling me a bit tech is real professional, kudos kevin
Yawn. No one cares troll.
I bet the firefighters didn’t ask Kevin to write the article. So they were doing their job an weren’t looking for anything in return.
This person should have been ledt in the tip of a condom. A true waste of oxygen and DNA.
