SALEM, Wis. — Bonnie Felske has resigned from the Board of Education for the Westosha Central High School District, creating a vacancy on the governing body. District officials have not disclosed the reason for Felske’s resignation, and no further details were provided by the district.
Felske served in an at-large role, meaning the seat represents the entire school district rather than a specific municipality. As a result, any eligible resident who lives within the boundaries of the Westosha Central High School District may apply to fill the vacancy.
The board plans to appoint a replacement to serve the remainder of the current term. The seat will then be placed on the ballot in the spring 2027 election for a full three-year term.
Residents interested in being considered for the at-large position must submit an email expressing their intent to apply to District Administrator John Gendron at [email protected]. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and reside within the Westosha Central High School District.
The district has not indicated when the resignation takes effect beyond noting that the vacancy is currently open and will be filled through the board’s standard appointment process.

This is a positive development for the district and most importantly the students served. Having attended numerous school board meetings, it’s been observed that Ms. Felske was rarely engaged and often working on emails or other business on her personal computer. She seldom had questions for the administration and voted affirmative for most if not all motions along with other current board members. Ironically, the board policy manual was recently updated to address board member engagement (a good development), and Ms. Felske was a member of the committee for board policy. The reason offered by the board and administrator for Ms. Felske’s resignation was that she was unable to dedicate the time necessary to the board due to her current responsibilities as principal of Zion-Benton High School in Illinois.
As Kevin stated here, anyone in the Westosha Central district can fill this opening to finish out the balance of Ms. Felske’s term (to April 2027), as it is an at-large board position.
This is how the Central School Board operates! If you are leaving they have you resign, so no outsider can get the job! That way the board gets to decide the replacement! The Westosha district is so large that it’s almost impossible to campaign and win. The incumbents rarely lose!
