SALEM, Wis. — Andrew “Andy” Leroy Boening, a longtime western Kenosha County resident remembered for his devotion to family, his love of the outdoors and his deep community roots, died Jan. 18, 2026, at Grande Prairie Care and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family. He was 83.
Andy was born Feb. 11, 1942, in Evanston, Ill., to Leroy and Esther (Paasch) Boening and was raised in Round Lake, Ill., where he attended local schools. On Nov. 11, 1961, he married Shirley Balser in Round Lake, beginning a marriage that spanned more than six decades and anchored a close and enduring family.
For many years, Andy worked as a foreman and millwright at K&K Screw Products, where he was known as dependable, hardworking and steady — the kind of person coworkers relied on and younger workers learned from. His work ethic carried over into every part of his life.
Andy was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church and was active in the Paddock Lake Sportsman’s Club. He also supported Ducks Unlimited and spent as much time as possible outdoors. Hunting and fishing were lifelong passions, as were coin collecting and taking casino trips with family and friends.
A dedicated Green Bay Packers fan, Andy rarely missed a game and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. But above all else, family came first. Those closest to him say nothing mattered more to Andy than spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Boening of Salem; his sons, Jeffrey Boening of Salem and Steve (Julie) Boening of Glenbeulah; his grandchildren, Jacob (Megen) Boening, Kate (Anthony) Ulman and Drew Boening; and his great-grandchildren, Kolton and Owen.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Christ Lutheran Church, 24929 75th St. in Paddock Lake. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
Family members say Andy will be remembered as a kind, loyal and genuine man whose presence made people feel at home — a fixture of western Kenosha County whose legacy lives on through the family and community he loved.
