KENOSHA, Wis. — Cyclists from across the Midwest will descend on downtown Kenosha later this month as the Velo City Classic returns on Saturday, June 20, bringing a full day of competitive racing, family activities, and community events to Library Park and the surrounding streets.
The event is part of the 2026 Tour of America’s Dairyland, one of the nation’s premier cycling series, and celebrates Kenosha’s long-standing cycling heritage while showcasing the city to visitors from around the region.
Racing begins at 11:45 a.m. and continues throughout the day, featuring categories for novice riders, masters competitors, women’s professional racers, and men’s professional racers. Organizers expect spectators to line the course as athletes race through downtown on a fast-paced criterium circuit.
A special Community Hour is scheduled from 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m., giving local residents an opportunity to participate in activities on the race course before the evening professional races begin.
One of the highlights of Community Hour will be a free kids race open to children of all ages. Young riders will have the opportunity to ride on the same course used by professional cyclists. Organizers say helmets are required for all participants.
The children’s events begin at 6:15 p.m. with balance bike and strider races, followed by divisions for riders with training wheels and age-based categories for children up to 12 years old. The evening concludes with an “Anything on Wheels” event from 6:40 p.m. to 7 p.m., allowing participants to take part using strollers, wagons, scooters, and other non-motorized wheeled devices.
In addition to the races, families will be able to create race plates, test their skills on a cycling skills course, and participate in other kid-friendly activities.
The event will be held at Library Park, located near 8th Avenue and 60th Street. Racing and festivities run from 11 a.m. until approximately 9 p.m.
Organizers are also seeking volunteers to assist on race day.
The Velo City Classic is sponsored by local cycling organizations and supporters, including Kenosha Velosport Cycling and Great Lakes Cycling, and serves as one of Kenosha’s signature summer sporting events.
Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, enjoy the downtown atmosphere, and take advantage of the opportunity to watch professional cycling while participating in free family activities throughout the day.
