KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — A 19-year-old Racine man is facing five felony charges after allegedly fleeing a Kenosha County sheriff’s deputy at speeds up to 120 mph, turning off his headlights during the pursuit, and crashing into another vehicle in Somers on Friday.
Jose Peralta was formally charged the same day with one count of fleeing or eluding an officer and four counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety. Court Commissioner William Michel II set Peralta’s cash bail at $15,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 2.
According to the criminal complaint, Deputy Benjamin Dorval was monitoring traffic on Highway 31 near Somers when he clocked a grey sedan traveling 80 mph in a 55 mph zone. When he attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated, weaving between cars and reaching speeds estimated at 120 mph.
As the vehicle approached Braun Road, the driver allegedly extinguished the car’s headlights and tail lights. At one point near 21st Street and Highway 31, the vehicle reportedly swerved to avoid another motorist, ultimately striking the driver’s side of that vehicle before coming to rest across multiple lanes.
Deputies found four people in the vehicle, including Peralta, who was identified as the driver. His passengers included his brother, Antonio Jaimes, as well as two coworkers, Anakin Lozano and Eraina Estrada. All denied injury at the scene, and no serious injuries were reported to the motorist struck, David Watzlawick.
According to statements made to deputies, Jaimes had asked Peralta to drive because he was tired. Estrada told authorities she asked Peralta to stop and became frightened when he shut off the lights and sped through intersections. Lozano said he repeatedly asked Peralta to pull over, fearing trouble due to his probation status.
Deputies confirmed Peralta does not have a valid driver’s license and has never been issued one.
If convicted on all counts, Peralta faces up to 46 years in prison and $110,000 in fines.

Using a motor vehicle in this way is Attempted Murder …… against every member of the public.
*Attempted Murder – multiple.
This should have been the charge decades ago for this and thousands of murders by vehicle could have been avoided.
