KENOSHA, Wis. – City officials are warning residents and business owners to watch out for fraudulent invoices that falsely appear to come from the City of Kenosha’s Planning Commission.
The scam invoices reference zoning or permit-related work that was never approved or completed. They often include bogus due dates, demand immediate payment via wire transfers, and list unfamiliar addresses or accounts. Some even use the city’s logo and formatting to look official.
City Administrator John Morrissey said the City Plan Commission does not issue invoices for services and urged the public not to send payments without verifying documents directly with city staff.
“If you receive a questionable invoice that appears to be from the Planning Commission, do not send payment,” Morrissey said. “Instead, contact our staff to verify its legitimacy. We are taking these scams seriously.”
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious invoices to the Department of City Development at 262-653-4030 and to the Kenosha Police Department’s non-emergency line at 262-656-1234.
All official City of Kenosha emails end in “@kenosha.org.” Authorities said updates will be released as the investigation continues.
