KENOSHA, Wis. — A 51-year-old Kenosha man appeared in court Monday and was formally charged with misdemeanor battery after an alleged assault on a woman in the parking lot of the Shalom Center last week.
According to a criminal complaint, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on July 31 while the woman was sitting in her vehicle with Murray Yusef Allen in the passenger seat. She told police they had been in a friendship that had recently turned romantic, and she had driven him to the Shalom Center, where he had been staying for the past two months.
The woman said Allen became upset after spotting a paper sack inside her vehicle, which he associated with a liquor store. She told police Allen began yelling, accused her of cheating, and called her a “bitch.” She alleged that he then struck her on the left side of her face, causing pain, and later grabbed the back of her neck and pushed her down into the seat. She reported that Allen eventually struck her again on the left side of her head before leaving the vehicle and entering the Shalom Center.
Police documented visible injuries, including bruising and swelling around her left eye — which appeared black and purple — and scratch marks on the left side of her neck. The woman later provided a written statement to officers describing the assault.
The following day, at about 12:30 p.m., Allen turned himself in to police, telling an officer he knew he was wanted in connection with the incident. He was taken into custody without incident.
In court Monday, Court Commissioner William Michel II set bail at $1,000 cash. Allen is due back in court Sept. 8 for a judicial pre-trial.
