SOMERS, Wis. County Executive Samantha Kerkman and Kenosha County Parks will kick off the holiday season with the third-annual tree lighting ceremony at Petrifying Springs Park on Saturday, Nov. 29, with a full afternoon of family-friendly activities planned in and around the Biergarten on the park’s south end. The event is free and open to the public.
Festivities begin at 11 a.m., when the Petrifying Springs Biergarten opens for the day, offering German Glühwein, beer and hot cocoa. Hot food and other beverages will also be available from on-site food trucks, giving families a chance to make a day of it at the park.
At 3 p.m., the Tree Lighting Ceremony officially gets underway with free biodegradable ornament decorating and a visit from live reindeer. Organizers say the hands-on crafts and animal visits are meant to give children and adults alike something memorable to do while they wait for the sun to set and the lights to come on.
From 3 to 6 p.m., families can line up for free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. A professional photographer will be on hand to take the pictures, and each family will receive access to a free digital photo so they can easily share the images with relatives and friends.
The main moment of the evening comes at 5 p.m., when Kerkman will lead the crowd in a countdown to light the park’s Christmas tree. “We’re excited to return with what’s quickly become a tradition in Kenosha County,” Kerkman said, noting that she looks forward to ringing in the season and enjoying Christmas cheer in Petrifying Springs on Nov. 29 and throughout the holidays.
Beyond the main tree, visitors will be able to stroll among additional trees decorated by various Kenosha County departments. Each one will be uniquely themed after a Christmas movie, adding an extra element of fun for families who want to explore the area around the Biergarten.
The event will take place near the Highway JR entrance on the south end of Petrifying Springs Park, giving people an easy landmark to find the festivities. County officials say they hope the growing tradition continues to draw residents from across the area to celebrate the start of the holiday season together.

Great time to gather for ridiculing the RINO. Will her Siamese twin Zoerner be there too? This would be a great time to toss constant loud question’s to these two fat fakes. Let’s gather people! Let’s get a huge crowd. Bring megaphones if you have them. Peaceful protest.
