Today, Kenosha County Deputy District Attorney Carli McNeill announced her candidacy for Kenosha County District Attorney, officially. KCE reported in September of 2023 that McNeill was seeking the office, but today, she made it official.
“We are living in times where people judge based on party affiliation everyone who runs for office. Jobs like District Attorney should never be partisan, and no person who wants to make partisan decisions should ever be in that office. While the job itself should not be partisan, elections for DA are, and I am running as a Democrat. However, in these local races people can actually get to know the candidate, and I hope everyone will consider me on my own merits,” said McNeill when Kenosha County Eye asked which party she was running as.

A 13 year veteran of the Kenosha County District Attorney’s office, Deputy DA McNeill has won multiple awards for her work to keep Kenosha County safe, support victims of crime, and pursue justice on behalf of her home community.
Deputy DA McNeill was born and raised in Kenosha County, graduating from Bristol Grade School and Central High School. McNeill attended Union College in Schenectady, NY to play Division I ice hockey. After graduation, she attended law school at the University of Notre Dame, earning her degree in 2010.
“I’m from Kenosha County, and, aside from when I was away at school, I’ve lived here my entire life,” said McNeill. “This is my home, and after graduating, I knew I wanted to come back here and do something meaningful for this community. There’s no other work that’s as fulfilling and challenging as working closely with law enforcement to keep our community safe and to ensure victims’ voices are heard.”
She began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Kenosha County in 2011. In 2019, McNeill was recognized by her fellow prosecutors as the State of Wisconsin’s “Rising Star” prosecutor for her work. McNeill was promoted to Deputy District Attorney–second in command at the DA’s Office–in 2021. This past year, Deputy District Attorney McNeill was again recognized by her peers, this time for her leadership as the State of Wisconsin’s Deputy District Attorney of the Year.
“When my daughter was a victim of a crime, I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew I needed to make sure she got justice,” said Christina Walker, mother to a child victim. “Carli was on the case and she did just that. Carli was extremely respectful and supportive. She cares about crime victims as people. Carli was there for me and my daughter in that most difficult time and now I’m here to support her.”
As part of the nomination for Deputy District Attorney of the Year, McNeill was supported by detectives from the Kenosha Police Department who wrote: “Carli has a zero-tolerance stance towards crime in Kenosha . . . . Carli’s ability to communicate with law enforcement agencies and District Attorney Office’s within the State of Wisconsin and out of state makes our job much easier. We cannot stress how valuable and communicative Carli is and how fortunate the Kenosha Police Department is to have a Deputy District Attorney like her in our County.”

Through her collaboration with law enforcement over the years, Deputy District Attorney McNeill has earned the support of many local law enforcement leaders. Kenosha County Deputy Sheriff’s Association President Tim Hackbarth stated, “I have worked with Carli for the better part of 10 years as a sensitive crimes detective. In that time our City/County has seen some pretty significant events and crimes committed against other members of our community. Carli’s no nonsense approach to dealing with criminals is unmatched. Her main goal from what I see is to protect the community from those who want to harm it, but more importantly to support and defend the victims of these crimes and bring them the justice they deserve. Carli has served our community with honesty, integrity and fairness. These are all qualities that are needed to conduct the duties of the District Attorney and assure that our community stays safe and that victims have a voice. I feel there is no better person than Carli McNeill to serve as the next District Attorney of Kenosha.”

Her continued collaboration with Kenosha area law enforcement promises to be a core component of her administration. “Carli is endorsed by the Kenosha Professional Police Association (KPPA) Board of Directors to be the next District Attorney of Kenosha County,” stated Pete Deates, KPPA President. “Carli has earned this endorsement and the support of law enforcement over the course of more than a decade. During that time, Carli has proven that she is tough and fair and completely committed to working with law enforcement to hold those who commit crimes accountable. This makes her the best choice to be the next District Attorney.”

Others in the legal profession agreed. Former Kenosha County Court Commissioner Loren Keating stated, “I view Carli McNeill from multiple perspectives. As a long time police officer, I know what is crucial to have in a prosecutor to keep our community safe. As a recently retired Court Commissioner, I had an opportunity to see Carli McNeill in Court on the most serious cases over the last several years. From both those perspectives, I have complete confidence that Carli McNeill will make an outstanding District Attorney.”
“Being District Attorney is an immense responsibility, but my time as Deputy District Attorney has provided me with the experience and insights to ensure that Kenosha County’s District Attorney’s Office continues to support victims and keep our community safe,” concluded McNeill. “As District Attorney, I will work relentlessly to ensure that Kenosha County is a safe, flourishing place to live and raise a family for everyone, just as it has always been for me.”

Was she involved in the massive failure to not charge the serial child rapist Randy Volar? This is the guy who was murdered by one of his victims, Cristal Kiser. If this was the Assistant DA who screwed this up, she is not fit to serve as a prosecutor, let alone the DA.
Last time I checked, capital punishment is not legal in Wisconsin so don’t let that little Milwaukee trollop wanderer away after committing a murder, just because she killed her rapist (or maybe just her pedo/John). If you want to let people murder for revenge, you’ll have to change the State Constitution. 🤣
So, it was ok that this child rapist was not in custody the entire time that the police and DA had dozens of videos of the child rapist having sex with underage girls. It was a massive school screw up to not have this dangerous man in custody.
Was she the assistant DA who was behind this unconscionable failure?

When you live with socialism like she has for the last 13 years under Commrad Gravley you have to assume she will be old wine in new bottle . I’m glad that local law enforcement has such confidence in her and if elected I hope she actually does the job . Remember if you swim in a sewer long enough you pick up the stench !

I think Carli is a smart Prosecutor. I have known her professionally for many years. Personally I like her. That said, I NEVER vote for a dem. EVER. Turncoats. Trators. Party before country. Personal ambition and agenda before community and safety. MAGA is NOT your nemesis.

Yes, absolutely GOOD some of us live in a fully RED State.
There are only a few qualified candidates within the KCDA office who could do the job. Carli is one, but I’d pick Andrew Burgoyne as he’s a straight shooter and conservative. Carli may be good but she has been blemished by MG and his crew, including the victim witness department. The local PD and Sheriff have no say as to whom the DA is and don’t act like they have any say. Remember because the KPPA endorses someone, it is only their board who endorses and not a consensus of the entire department…same holds true for the Sheriff’s association.
She has been doing a great job. She is very professional and won’t allow politics to interfere with her job. McNeil will make a very good candidate and an excellent District Attorney.
Anyone who had a hand in prosecuting Kyle Rittenhouse should not be promoted to DA.
