Troy Wohlgefahrt made a sudden and tragic exit from this world this weekend. Here is a glimpse about who Troy was during his life. KCE sat down with Troy’s Mom, Gail Kulbacki and Troy’s two younger sisters, Nicole Wohlgefahrt and Theresa Busanet.

Troy came into this world with a lot of luck. Troy was a twin, who’s brother didn’t survive childbirth. The doctor’s told his mother he was lucky to have been born healthy. He was born a big baby and remained a big man. He began this life at over 8 pounds and 23 inches and left this world at 6′ 2″ and 180 pounds.

Troy spent most of his life in Kenosha County. He graduated from Reuther High School and immediately enlisted in the United States Army at 18 years old. He did a tour of duty in Korea as an infantryman for just over a year. “He loved his country,” Troy’s Mom told KCE. Troy would later received a plaque from his platoon leader for distinguished service for going above and beyond. He also obtained his expert marksmanship certificate.

At the time of his passing, Troy lived with his friend Bob in downtown Kenosha by the lake. He adored his pet cat “Sunkist.” At one time, Troy owned a Nile Monitor. Troy kept to himself mostly, but had a close group of friends.

“Troy was extremely smart, especially with math,” said Troy’s Mom. “We would take him the to grocery store and he was like a walking calculator.” Troy loved to watch football and Nascar on TV. He loved Jeff Gordon, #24 and The Dallas Cowboys since he was 10 years old.

Troy had two sayings he liked, “No pain, no gain,” and “stay alert, stay alive.’

When asked what she wanted the world to remember about Troy, his mother Gail and sister Theresa told KCE that “If [Troy] was your friend or family member, he would do anything for you, including giving you the shirt off his back.”

Troy’s family admitted that Troy battled with addiction and got into “some” trouble, but had no felonies on his record.

Troy’s mom told us a beautiful story about him. “In fact, his grandpa, my dad, died about 27 years ago. Troy promised my mom and dad that they’d see him one time in his uniform. Well, he died. So he drove home from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and got out his dress blues, the rings – he put on. He was a pallbearer at the funeral. And he said, ‘well, Grandpa, you got to see me one time.’ He just, I mean, that’s the kind of guy he was. But, you know, he didn’t like people to know and all that stuff.”

  1. Aw man 😢. That is a classic Cheezconsin impossible German name . German last names & Indian town names are designed to confuse FIBS

    2. The name in German means “God be with you on your journey”. I know because I am married to his Uncle.

  2. Condolences to the family. I can’t help but think if the races were reversed, would Kenosha be on fire again?

    1. STOP with the race card. A man died a brutal death by someone who was under the influence and didn’t have a valid drivers license.Nothing racists about it.

  3. Dear Wohlgefahrt family, Please realize that there are a few who will say anything to any post on this page for shock value. There are also many who read and never write. And there are many who send condolences to you on your loss.

    1. There is a previous article that details all of this. He lost his balance and fell. He didn’t make it back up before she ran him over and drug him damn near a mile!

  4. I am so sorry about his tragic passing and i hope that the woman who hit him actually goes to prison!

  5. My most sincere condolences to Theresa and her mother and the rest of the family. What a tragedy. My prayers are with you.

  6. I remember Troy from a corner bar he would occasionally stop into.
I didn’t know him well but did get to talk with him a few times and realized that he was a good man and a kind soul.
RIP Troy. Condolences to the family and his friends.

  7. I’m so sorry for your loss! My condolences for the family. I knew Troy briefly because my mom was good friends with him. To me he was a good man. He had a kind heart, just a little rough on the outside, but life does that to everyone. I can’t believe the way he died, it’s just so brutal! Nobody deserves that!! I hope that the justice system brings closure and justice for his family and friends! I honestly don’t care that he liked to drink! It’s Wisconsin, there’s literally a bar on every corner, but he never killed anyone under the influence. The person responsible needs to be sued and put in prison for a very long time!! I don’t care how many DUIs he had, he NEVER KILLED ANYONE! And all of you saying negative things about him, it’s best if you don’t have kind things to say then DONT SAY THEM AT ALL! DONT BE ASSHOLES! This man died a brutal death and nobody deserves that! And this isn’t for the people that talk badly, this is for the family’s closure.
