Kenosha, Wis. — Three Kenosha police officers were recently honored with Lifesaving Awards for their roles in critical medical emergencies that resulted in the successful resuscitation of a woman, a toddler, and a teenager.
Officers Tyler Schend, Vincent Hubli, and Arturo Burgos-Gutierrez were recognized by the city’s Police and Fire Commission for separate incidents in which their quick thinking and CPR skills helped save lives.
On Nov. 29, Officer Schend arrived at the scene of a medical emergency to find a woman unconscious and not breathing. He immediately began CPR and continued until paramedics arrived. The woman was revived at the scene.
A month later, on Dec. 30, Officer Hubli responded to a report of a one-year-old who had stopped breathing and was turning purple. The child had no pulse when Hubli arrived. After two cycles of CPR, the child began to breathe, cough, and open her eyes.
Then, on Jan. 11, Officer Burgos-Gutierrez responded to a teenager in cardiac arrest. The teen’s mother had started CPR before officers arrived. Burgos-Gutierrez took over compressions, and after about 30, the teen began to breathe on his own.
Chief of Police Patrick Patton said the three officers exemplified the department’s core values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence. “Their decisive actions and commitment to public safety directly resulted in lives being saved,” Patton wrote in his commendation.
The awards were formally presented during a recent Police and Fire Commission meeting.
