KENOSHA, Wis. — A 26-year-old Kenosha woman was in court Monday after being accused of assaulting a 61-year-old neighbor during a confrontation that turned physical outside their duplex on the city’s north side.
Teliea L. Bruton has been charged in Kenosha County Circuit Court with one count of physical abuse of an elder person – intentionally causing bodily harm, with a repeater enhancer. Due to her prior convictions, the maximum prison sentence increases from six to eight years.
According to a criminal complaint filed Monday, officers with the Kenosha Police Department were dispatched on May 4 to a residence near 19th Avenue after receiving multiple calls reporting an assault. When officers arrived, they encountered an injured man who stated he had just been attacked by his upstairs neighbor and her child.
The man told police the incident began after he shouted at a juvenile in his yard, demanding they leave the property. About 15 minutes later, he was informed that someone was downstairs looking for him. When he stepped outside, he encountered Bruton and the same child—identified in the complaint as her son, age 11.
A verbal dispute quickly escalated. The man claimed that as he turned around to face the boy, Bruton accused him of trying to hit the child and then struck him on the left side of his head near the temple. The blow allegedly knocked off his glasses and left a swollen, bleeding injury. As he tried to defend himself, he stumbled and fell to the ground. While on the ground, he was reportedly struck again by Bruton on the other side of his face, and the juvenile allegedly began hitting him on the back of the head.
Officers documented visible injuries consistent with the man’s account, including swelling, redness, and bleeding to both sides of his face. He reported experiencing pain and did not give permission for anyone to touch him.
When interviewed by officers, Bruton said she only pushed the man after he swung at her son and claimed the man struck her in the face. However, officers observed no significant injuries on Bruton and noted she did not wish to pursue charges. The man, however, did request prosecution.
Police arrested Bruton at the scene, citing the man’s age and the sequence of events described by witnesses. Under Wisconsin law, a person 60 or older is considered an elder, and intentional harm against such a person carries enhanced penalties.

Bruton has a criminal record that includes prior convictions for misdemeanor theft, disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier, and resisting an officer. Prosecutors are seeking to apply the repeater enhancer based on those convictions.
On Monday, Court Commissioner William Michel II set bail at $2,000 cash. Bruton remains in custody at the Kenosha County Jail and is due back in court on May 8, 2025, for a preliminary hearing.

This woman is an abusive thief… The side of the story that matters is that she seems to stay in trouble. If she was just living her life as a normal citizen, living a normal lifestyle, she wouldn’t be in jail.
