KENOSHA, Wis. – A Kenosha man is facing serious felony charges after prosecutors say he physically assaulted the mother of his child during a domestic dispute and tried to stop two of her children from calling 911—all while his 5-year-old daughter watched the violence unfold.

(Kenosha County Sheriff)
Jose E. Nunez Andino, 34, was charged Wednesday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with false imprisonment and felony intimidation of a victim, both with domestic abuse enhancers. He also faces misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and operating while revoked. Court Commissioner William Michel II set his bail at $2,500. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 12.
According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to a home on 42nd Avenue on the afternoon of June 1 after a woman reported being assaulted by her boyfriend. The woman told police that after returning from church, she was confronted in the basement by Nunez Andino, who began yelling at her about rent and blocked her from leaving. She said he raised his fist in a threatening manner before grabbing her shirt, throwing her onto a bed, placing his hand on her throat, and punching her in the stomach while straddling her.
She told officers that the physical attack ended only after their family dog bit Nunez Andino, causing him to retreat. The couple’s 5-year-old daughter was present during the alleged assault.
The woman attempted to call 911 but said Nunez Andino grabbed the phone from her hands and ended the call. Her 16-year-old son then tried to call 911 from his own phone, but Nunez Andino allegedly followed him upstairs, reached through a hole in the door, and tried to rip the phone away. The teen managed to keep control of the phone and complete the call.
By the time police arrived, Nunez Andino had left the residence in his work van. He was located the following day by Officer Lexi Dessart during a traffic stop. Officers confirmed that his driver’s license had been revoked since 2015 following a refusal to submit to a chemical test, and it had never been reinstated.
If convicted on all charges, Nunez Andino faces more than 17 years in prison and substantial fines.
