KENOSHA, Wis. – A 24-year-old Kenosha man is facing ten criminal charges—including felony strangulation, false imprisonment, and threats to injure—after a woman reported months of domestic violence that allegedly occurred in front of their young children.
Arturo L. Martinez III was formally charged in Kenosha County Circuit Court on June 18. The charges stem from four separate incidents, according to the criminal complaint, with alleged assaults taking place in November 2024 and on April 25, May 1, and June 17 of this year.
The woman told police she lives with Martinez and that they have two children together. She said the most recent confrontation occurred June 17 at their apartment, when Martinez allegedly screamed at her, followed her through the residence, and prevented her from leaving by physically blocking her path and threatening to call the police on her if she walked out. Though hallway surveillance video did not capture any physical contact, officers noted visible tension and verbal conflict.
The most serious allegations came from an April 25 incident, when the woman said Martinez hit her in the face while their baby daughter was in the room, then pressed his hand over her mouth for several minutes as she struggled to breathe. She told police she began hyperventilating and feared for her life. She said similar abuse occurred on May 1, when Martinez allegedly punched her repeatedly, dragged her from a bed, and refused to let her leave the apartment—leaving her with a black eye and busted lip.
The complaint also references a November 2024 incident in which Martinez allegedly struck her in the face and whipped her approximately 19 times with a belt, resulting in a bloody nose.
The woman told police she feared Martinez, whom she described as a “master of mixed martial arts.” She also reported that he had threatened to harm her, stalked her, and had access to weapons. She chose to enforce the 72-hour no-contact prohibition after giving her statement to police.
During the June 17 incident, officers say they found a homemade marijuana cigarette in Martinez’s pocket, which tested positive for THC. That resulted in an additional drug possession charge.
Martinez faces the following charges:
- Strangulation and suffocation, domestic abuse (Class H felony)
- False imprisonment, domestic abuse (Class H felony)
- Threats to injure or accuse of a crime, domestic abuse (Class H felony)
- Three counts of battery, domestic abuse (Class A misdemeanors)
- Three counts of disorderly conduct, domestic abuse (Class B misdemeanors)
- Possession of THC (misdemeanor)
.
If convicted on all counts, Martinez faces up to 18 years in prison and tens of thousands of dollars in fines. He appeared in court on June 18, where Court Commissioner Angelina Gabriele set cash bail at $15,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26.
