KENOSHA, Wis. – A 26-year-old Kenosha man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly threatening to shoot and stab police officers who responded to his mother’s 911 call about a domestic disturbance Tuesday morning.
Stefano J. Roberts was charged Wednesday with threatening law enforcement, throwing bodily fluids at a public safety worker, and resisting an officer—each as a repeat offender. Court Commissioner William Michel II ordered cash bail set at $10,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 8.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were dispatched to the 8300 block of 25th Avenue around 5:00 a.m. on June 24 after Roberts’ mother, Lisa Roberts, reported that her son—who she said suffers from mental illness—was intoxicated, breaking things in the basement, and making suicidal statements.
When police arrived, Roberts allegedly warned them not to enter the basement, saying he had a gun and would shoot them. Officers held their position and observed him through a window wielding a knife. At one point, Roberts reportedly threw the knife toward an officer at the top of the basement stairs. It did not strike anyone.
Eventually, Roberts agreed to come upstairs and was handcuffed in the backyard. But as officers tried to escort him to a squad car, he allegedly began resisting—tensing his body, dropping his weight, and trying to pull away.
During the struggle, the complaint states Roberts spit on one officer’s pant leg and tried to bite another’s fingers. Officers eventually subdued him without serious injury.
Roberts’ charges include:
- Threat to a law enforcement officer (Class H felony, repeater), punishable by up to 10 years in prison
- Throwing or discharging bodily fluids at a public safety worker (Class I felony, repeater), punishable by up to 7.5 years
- Resisting an officer (Class A misdemeanor, repeater), punishable by up to 2 years
.
Roberts has a prior felony bail jumping conviction from 2022, which enhances the penalties on all counts.
If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum sentence of 19.5 years in prison.
