KENOSHA, Wis. – A 41-year-old homeless man is facing three felony charges after allegedly using a stolen debit card to make a series of unauthorized purchases across Kenosha in late April.

(Kenosha County Sheriff)
Eric R. Sobin was in court Tuesday and formally charged with three counts of felony unauthorized use of personal identifying information, each as a repeater. Court Commissioner William Michel II ordered Sobin held on $1,500 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 8.
According to a criminal complaint, a woman reported to police on April 29 that her wallet had been stolen while walking her dogs two days earlier. She later discovered over $120 in fraudulent purchases, including charges at Burger King, BP Express, OHM Fuel Mart, Family Dollar, and Blackhawk Tobacco.
Detective Chad Buchanan of the Kenosha Police Department obtained surveillance footage from Family Dollar that showed a man later identified as Sobin using the victim’s debit card to purchase soda and Bluetooth headphones. The last four digits of the card used in the transaction matched the card reported stolen.
Sobin was identified by multiple tipsters after images from the surveillance footage were posted on the department’s Facebook page. One of the callers was a long-time acquaintance of Sobin, who told police she was “100% certain” it was him.
As a convicted felon with a prior 2024 conviction for possession of THC (2nd offense), Sobin faces enhanced penalties if convicted. Each count carries a maximum penalty of 6 years, plus an additional 4 years due to his repeater status.
