KENOSHA, Wis. — A 29-year-old Kenosha man was charged Wednesday with a Class H felony for allegedly failing to provide required information to the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry. Court Commissioner William Michel II set cash bail at $7,500, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27.

According to the criminal complaint, Tyler James Smith did not complete his annual verification in July as required and also failed to report that he no longer lived at his listed Kenosha residence. Registry officials marked him noncompliant earlier this month after no timely response was received.
A person familiar with his living arrangements told investigators that Smith had been moving out of his reported residence since April and was not living there by the end of July. Wisconsin law requires registrants to report address changes within 10 days.
Smith has been on the sex offender registry since 2016 following a conviction in Lake County, Illinois, and is required to register for life.
If convicted of the charge—Sex Offender Registry: Failure to Provide Information—he faces up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The case was filed in Kenosha County Circuit Court on Aug. 20.
