SALEM LAKES, Wis. – A Salem Lakes residence was left uninhabitable early Tuesday morning after a fire heavily damaged the structure and involved a large propane tank.
Salem Lakes Fire Rescue and automatic aid departments were dispatched around 1:15 a.m. to 520 N. Cogswell Drive for a report of a back porch fire. Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames on the north-side deck, where a 100-pound propane tank was intensifying the blaze.

Due to the hazards posed by the tank and the fire’s rapid extension into the attic, a second alarm was requested through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, bringing assistance from multiple neighboring departments.
The fire caused extensive damage, rendering the home uninhabitable. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The cause remains under investigation.

Departments assisting included Bristol, Randall, Wheatland, Paris, Antioch, Twin Lakes, Pleasant Prairie, Kansasville, Lake Geneva, Somers, Newport, Lake Villa, City of Burlington, Town of Burlington, Fox Lake, Racine Fire Bells, along with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office and Kenosha County Joint Services.

Seems like the amount of property lost in this village is extensive. Seems like they need to evaluate their leadership and their ability to handle these situations
A hundred pound propane tank ?
Yeah ! Rita should get right on that. Maybe even John Carrier and Bill Hopkins.
Drive around and check BBQ grill connections.
While they’re at it let’s outlaw vinyl siding too so the neighbors house doesn’t melt to the ground.
Leadership ? Handle these situations ?
Homeowner caused a fire. Fire department showed up. Fire crews put out the fire. Nobody got hurt.
Seems like everything worked as designed.
Evaluate leadership ?
Come to the next village board meeting and announce your candidacy ? If you win in April you might be able to vote on a new fire chief.
Can’t lead from behind a keyboard
hey concerned citizen- You’re a douche nozzle. The firefighters did a fine job. Im glad no one was hurt
House Fires are not a common occurrence anymore. The biggest reason is the electrical code changes and good old fashion education. To make a house fire political is dumb. Life is dangerous at times, common sense usually rules the day. The multi alarm fire was handled properly and appears only a loss of property, that’s what insurance is for. If people do foolish things with fire, yes a fire may ensue, back to common sense. I’m not inferring anything was done improper in this fire, I don’t know, but the VOSL FD did what we pay them to do, put out fires, Thank you to the FD.
Read somewhere the cause was a fire pit on wood deck.., so this fire is explainable, and yes the fire dept did a great job saving this structure.
But what about the 2 other house fires this year and the one last year. Is there a common thread ? Age of house? Electrical fires ? Seems like a lot of house fires for the population.
Old houses ? Electric wiring ?
I’ve got a house that’s over 100 years old. Lived here a long time. No issues.
Hundreds of homes over a hundred years old around here. You don’t see homes catching fire just because they are old do ya ?
And so what is the answer then ??
Tear down all the old houses just so they won’t possibly catch fire ?
House fires for the population ?
Is there a statistic you want to cite ?
Is that like cancer ? Three of my neighbors have cancer all within 300’ of each other. Couple of heart attacks thrown in there too ! Something in the well water maybe ? Or just an aging population.
There it is ! The word Population !
Two house fires this year. What kind of comment is that ? Because someone put a metal fire pit on a deck ! That’s stupidity at its finest ! Even at that, to not be there watching it ? With a garden hose at your side ? I don’t burn leaves in my ditch without the hose nearby.
Can’t regulate stupid
