PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. – A 32-year-old Pleasant Prairie woman was formally charged Monday after police say she crashed her vehicle while intoxicated, injuring another driver and then fleeing the scene on foot.

(Kenosha County Sheriff)
Sandra Rivas faces three charges: operating while intoxicated causing injury (a misdemeanor), second-degree reckless injury (a Class F felony), and hit-and-run involving injury (a felony). The most serious charge carries a maximum penalty of 12 years and six months in prison and a $25,000 fine.
According to the criminal complaint, the crash happened Saturday morning, August 23, at the intersection of 104th Street and Springbrook Road. Witnesses told police that Rivas’s white Honda Civic jumped a roundabout at high speed, rolled multiple times, and collided with a red pickup truck. The truck’s driver, a man identified only by his initials in court documents, suffered significant injuries, including cuts to his face and severe pain in his side. He was transported to Froedtert Hospital but survived.
Witnesses reported seeing Rivas crawl out of the Civic’s window and run away from the crash without checking on the injured driver. Officers later found her walking on 104th Street. Police noted she had slurred speech, glassy eyes, and smelled of alcohol. She refused field sobriety testing and a preliminary breath test, but a blood draw was later taken. Results were not immediately available.
Rivas appeared in court Monday where Court Commissioner William Michel II set her bail at $3,000 cash. She is due back in court September 17 for a preliminary hearing.
