KENOSHA, Wis. — The familiar sound of holiday bells will return this Friday as The Salvation Army of Kenosha County kicks off its annual Red Kettle Campaign, a cherished community tradition that helps fund essential local programs throughout the year.
The 2025 campaign officially launches November 14, with a fundraising goal of $135,000 through kettle donations and a broader Christmas goal of $292,000. The funds will support programs that provide food, housing assistance, youth services, clothing, Christmas gifts, and other aid to families and individuals in need.
“The Red Kettle Campaign has been a symbol of compassion and hope in Kenosha for generations,” said Auxiliary Captain David Hamilton. “Every dollar dropped into a kettle helps us meet human needs right here in our community.”
Hundreds of volunteers are expected to take part in this year’s campaign, ringing bells at storefronts and businesses across the county. Residents, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to get involved by donating, volunteering, or helping spread the message of giving. Shifts can be scheduled at registertoring.com.
The Kenosha Corps, located at 3116 75th Street, has served the area for 135 years, and leaders hope this year’s campaign will continue that legacy of service.
“The holidays are about bringing people together,” Hamilton said. “By volunteering or donating, you’re helping make the season brighter for those who need it most.”

Honestly the red kettle collection routine is tedious for customers going in and out of businesses and, I think, for the bell ringers themselves. Out in the cold weather, they do it at least partly because they get a share of the collection in their kettle. I give to a few causes by direct online contributions. I don’t want to be hounded for more at every store. The bell ringers aren’t aggressive but that’s how it feels.
If you only knew how little money actually went to those who need it…
the Salvation Army says it hopes white donors will recognize their own contributions to racism and adopt “a posture of … anti-racism,” an ideological practice made popular by progressive author Ibram X. Kendi.
