KENOSHA, Wis. — A 30-year-old Kenosha man is facing multiple criminal charges, including felony victim intimidation, following a violent domestic incident involving the mother of his children and two minors who witnessed the attack.
Adarius S. Tanner was charged Thursday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with felony intimidation of a victim, misdemeanor battery (domestic abuse), and disorderly conduct (domestic abuse) stemming from a July 23 incident at a home on 42nd Avenue.
Court Commissioner William Michel II ordered a $7,500 cash bail. Tanner remains in custody at the Kenosha County Jail pending a preliminary hearing set for July 30.
According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to the residence after receiving a 911 call about a man outside with a knife. When officers arrived, they encountered a visibly upset woman, later identified as Tanner’s ex-girlfriend and the mother of two of his children.
The woman told police that an argument began in her upstairs bedroom, during which Tanner “charged” at her and grabbed her by the throat, causing visible welts and scratches. She said two of her younger siblings tried to intervene, and at one point her young son brought her a knife in an attempt to protect her.
The situation escalated when Tanner allegedly took the knife from the woman, followed her outside, and dropped the weapon in the front yard, where it was later recovered by police. Officers described the knife as a steel butcher knife with an eight-inch blade.
One of the woman’s siblings, a 14-year-old girl, told police she witnessed Tanner choking her sister and interfering with her attempt to call 911 by taking her phone and disconnecting the call. Another sibling described seeing Tanner place the woman in a headlock and drag her while she struggled to break free.
The woman declined to complete domestic violence paperwork or sign a restraining order notice, according to the complaint.
If convicted on all counts, Tanner faces more than 10 years in prison and tens of thousands of dollars in fines. The most serious charge, felony intimidation of a victim, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years.
