KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — Six locations across Kenosha County will host National Drug Take Back Day events this Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering residents a chance to safely dispose of unwanted or expired medications at no cost.
The participating sites are BMO Bank (4235 52nd St., Kenosha), Pleasant Prairie Police Station (10111 39th Ave., Pleasant Prairie), Somers Fire & Rescue (7511 12th St., Somers), the Kenosha County Center at Highways 45 and 50 in Bristol, Twin Lakes Police Department (920 Lance Dr., Twin Lakes), and the University of Wisconsin–Parkside’s Tallent Hall (900 Wood Road, Somers).
Narcan training and information about behavioral health resources will be available at all sites except Twin Lakes and UW–Parkside. County Executive Samantha Kerkman encouraged residents to use the event to “clear their medication cabinets of expired or unused medications, to learn about lifesaving Narcan, and to pick up a directory that includes behavioral health resources and services that are available for our residents.”
Narcan — a nasal spray that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose — will be distributed with a brief five-minute training on recognizing and responding to overdose symptoms. More information on Kenosha County’s Narcan distribution program is available at NarcanTrainedKenosha.com.
Accepted items include prescription and over-the-counter drugs, ointments, patches, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials, pet medications, and vape pens or e-cigarette devices with batteries removed. Items that will not be accepted include illegal drugs, needles or sharps, aerosol cans, acids, biohazardous materials, personal care products, household hazardous waste, and mercury thermometers.
This weekend’s effort is a collaboration between BMO Bank, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, the Kenosha, Pleasant Prairie, Twin Lakes and UW–Parkside police departments, Somers Fire & Rescue, and the Kenosha County Division of Behavioral Health Services.
