KENOSHA, Wis. — Kenosha Unified School District has once again been recognized on the national stage, earning a prestigious music education award for the 12th consecutive year, according to a newly released announcement Wednesday.
The district received the Best Communities for Music Education Award from The NAMM Foundation, a national honor that highlights school systems demonstrating strong commitment to music education and broad student access to those programs.
The annual recognition program, now in its 27th year, evaluates school districts across the country on factors such as funding, participation rates, instructional time, facilities and community support. More than 1,000 schools and districts nationwide were recognized in 2026, spanning public, private, charter and parochial institutions.
Kenosha Unified officials credited both educators and students for the continued success of the district’s music programs.
“Our music programs reflect the hard work and dedication of our staff, who set high standards, and our students, who consistently strive to exceed them,” Superintendent Dr. Jeff Weiss said in the announcement.
Weiss also pointed to strong community backing as a key factor, saying the award reflects ongoing local support for maintaining high-quality music offerings in schools.
Applications for the award undergo an independent review and verification process conducted by WolfBrown, a research and evaluation firm specializing in education and the arts, ensuring districts meet national benchmarks for excellence.
The recognition signals continued momentum for Kenosha Unified’s arts programming, reinforcing its long-standing emphasis on music as part of a well-rounded education.
