Jensen Trial Day 11 – The Prosecution Rests

Mark Jensen is being accused of murdering his wife in 1998 by poisoning her with anti-freeze. On day 11 of his murder trial, an experienced forensic pathologist, Dr. Mainland took the stand. She was Kenosha’s medical examiner from 2005 to 2008. She has performed about 4,000 autopsies, but did not perform the autopsy of Julie Jensen, but did review it after the fact. She testified that she detected ethylene glycol in tissue slides taken from Julie’s body.

Dr. Mainland testified that in Jensen’s first trial, she tasked ethylene glycol and it was sweet. She said that now, manufacturers add a bittering agent to the liquid so it’s harder to swallow. “I didn’t swallow it,” she testified today. She showed the jury what a lethal dose of the poison was but showing a NyQuil cap to the jury.

Dr. Mainland told the jury that she examined most of the evidence in this case and she determined the cause and manor of death ethylene glycol poisoning and homicide, respectively.

After Dr. Mainland’s testimony finished, the state rested. The defense then made a motion to dismiss the murder charged based on insufficient credible evidence. Judge Milisauskas denied this motion, but not before putting all of the evidence he suggested a reasonable jury could use to convict Jensen on the record. It was a long speech.

Lori Renker took the stand and told the jury that jail house snitch Aaron Dillard conned her out of a lot of money and he isn’t credible. He conned her out of money for a home improvement project.

Debra Tegal (Spears)’s testimony was played for the jury of her 2008 testimony during the first trial. She testified that Aaron Dillard isn’t credible.

Frank Quintana, who was in custody at the time of Jensen’s first trial has passed away. His testimony was played before the jury today. He testified that the inmates, including witness David Thompson threatened Mark in jail, stole from him and threatened him.

The defense plans to call two Doctors tomorrow morning.
