SOMERS, Wis. — A traffic crash involving Kenosha County Circuit Court Judge Chad Kerkman on the afternoon of March 2, 2026, turned out to be a minor rear-end collision that resulted in no injuries and no citations, according to an official crash report obtained by Kenosha County Eye.

The crash occurred at about 2:54 p.m. Monday on westbound County Highway K, about a half mile west of Green Bay Road (STH 31) in the Town of Somers.
Several readers contacted Kenosha County Eye after hearing that a judge had been involved in a crash and asked the outlet to confirm what happened. The official report shows the incident was routine and relatively minor.
According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office report, Kerkman had slowed or stopped for traffic that was backing up due to a train when a Indian Trail high-schooler hit Kerkman from behind.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputy Brady responded to the scene at approximately 3:12 p.m. and observed minor damage to both vehicles. The report indicates the striking vehicle sustained minor front-end damage while Kerkman’s vehicle had minor rear-end damage.
No injuries were reported by either driver, and no one required medical attention.
Because the damage was minimal and the circumstances did not warrant enforcement action, deputies issued no citations.
While the crash itself would not normally be considered newsworthy, Kenosha County Eye obtained the report after numerous residents asked about the incident. The report confirms the crash was minor, no one was hurt, and the matter was handled as a routine traffic accident.

That’s not funny
Why wasn’t he at work at 3:12 on a Monday afternoon?
Give the people what they want 👌🏻
“circumstances did not warrant enforcement action”
… when I went to Drivers Ed in the the 70s I remember hearing that if I hit something while driving at the least I got a ticket for inattentive driving !!
Why didn’t this kid get a Ticket ?
Additionally while a police report was generated giving the insurance companies the information of the responsible parties, is a deputy or any law enforcement official ALLOWED to decide that a distracted driving violation shouldn’t be issued ?
Since when are officers allowed to forgive a traffic infraction on site ?
It’s called officer discretion…….. Not every accident HAS to result in a ticket.
Just hope you get the right officer.
I’m not a fan of Kerkman. But I am glad he didn’t grab his neck and make this a money grab after getting hit from behind. And if he suggested to the officer that no ticket needed to be handed out to the kid, that would impress me, too.
I wish he used the same judgment in the courtroom.
A ticket should have been issued and points assessed against the driver who hit Kerkman. This failure to issue traffic tickets and assess points against guilty drivers seems to be a trend, and is likely one cause of the increasing prevalence of irresponsible driving we gave seen since 2020.
